Loretta wanted to refuse, but thinking that she had drunk a bit, she gave up the idea and let him lead her towards his car.
The driver had already stepped out and opened the rear door.
Loretta glanced at Kevin with his usual unreadable expression, one hand in his pocket. He gestured for her to get into the car first.
Loretta nodded and got into the car.
Kevin entered after her and sat on the opposite side. The driver closed the door and returned to his seat. Neither of them spoke. The city lights passed outside the window, flashing briefly across the interior before disappearing into the darkness.
Loretta rested her head against the seat. She was tired. The evening had started so pleasantly, but running into Isabella had ruined part of it. She had tried to forget the encounter, yet Isabella's words had continued replaying in her mind.
Who knows how long you'll be alive to enjoy it?
