Chapter 1 - Origins

Name

Lin Qingshi

Age

23

Titles

- Sage of Nature

Background

Lin Qingshi was born in the worst part of a city that was already infamous for neglect. Its orphans starved, its children vanished, and its slums were a graveyard of forgotten lives. Qingshi learned early that no one was coming to save him.

He ran messages for gangs, dodged beatings, stole food, and slept on rooftops. But even then, he was different:

- His body grew stronger than other children.

- His instincts were sharper.

- Plants reacted to him — curling toward him, sprouting faster where he walked.

He hated the city. Hated the filth, the cruelty, the hopelessness. So one day, at twelve years old, he simply left. No goodbye. No plan. Just instinct.

He followed the pull in his chest until the stone roads gave way to roots and moss. He walked into the forest and never looked back.

Life in the Forest

The forest accepted him in a way the city never did.

He learned to survive by watching animals, copying them, fighting them when he had to. His qi naturally aligned with wood, life, and growth, and soon he could:

- Manipulate plants

- Strengthen his body with natural qi

- Grow herbs and tobacco from nothing but soil and intent

- Create new plant species through instinctive cultivation

He found a tiger cub half-starved, abandoned and raised it as his companion. The bond between them became spiritual, not just emotional.

The Master

One day, a woman stepped out of the mist.

Master Yunhe, a reclusive cultivator known as the Sage of the Verdant Moon, had sensed the forest shifting around a strange child. She found Qingshi sitting on a branch, smoking a crude herb blend he'd grown himself.

She told him:

> "You will never leave this forest. So I will teach you how to survive it."

For one full decade, she trained him:

What she taught him

- Qi Manipulation — refining his natural affinity into true cultivation

- Plant Arts — offensive vines, thorn whips, bark armor, root traps

- Creation Arts — growing herbs, tobacco, and medicinal plants

- Alchemy — pills, salves, potions, poultices

- Human Anatomy — pressure points, meridians, healing techniques

- Sword Basics — which he abandoned for a short sword he forged himself

- Philosophy of Nature — the balance between destruction and growth

She never called him "disciple."

She called him "the forest's chosen."
