Chapter 43 - The System Pushes Back

The result did not bring resolution.

It brought resistance.

Kael felt it the moment the scenario ended.

The field did not return to a neutral state. Instead, it held a faint tension, as though something within it had registered the interaction and was adjusting in response.

"…That's new," he said.

"Yes," Lyra replied.

The authority figure stepped forward, their posture unchanged but their presence more focused.

"You adapted the method," they said.

Kael nodded once. "Trying to fix everything at once doesn't work."

"You bypassed system prioritization."

Kael tilted his head slightly. "I worked around it."

"That is deviation."

Kael exhaled quietly.

"…You're running out of better words for this, aren't you?"

The figure ignored the comment.

"The system is designed to maintain order," they said. "Unregulated interaction introduces instability."

Kael frowned slightly.

"…Then why does it keep responding to me?"

That question lingered longer than the others.

For the first time—

The authority figure did not answer immediately.

The air shifted again. Not like before. More controlled. More deliberate.

Kael felt the alignment form—

Then resist.

The connection tightened but not blocked.

It felt opposed.

His expression sharpened.

"…That's new," he said.

"Yes," Lyra replied.

Kael focused more carefully, testing the sensation.

The alignment was still there—

But something was pushing back.

"…It's not just restricting me anymore," he said.

"No," Lyra replied. "It is reacting."

Kael exhaled slowly.

That changed everything.

The system wasn't just limiting him.

It was beginning to resist him.
