Chapter 4 - The First Break of Luck

The luxury car came to a smooth stop at the entrance of the school gate.

Above it stood a grand stone arch engraved with golden letters:

Jiangzhou First Elite Academy.

Inside, the campus stretched wide—tree-lined paths, glass academic buildings reflecting morning light, and perfectly maintained gardens that gave the entire place an atmosphere of quiet superiority.

This was a school built for the elite.

Where status silently decided everything.

The door opened.

Lin Chen stepped out.

For a brief moment, the surrounding chatter softened.

Several girls nearby glanced toward him unconsciously.

Whispers followed.

"…That's Lin Chen…"

"…He's really the most handsome in school…"

"…Lin family's young master…"

Lin Chen heard everything.

But his expression did not change.

Calm.

Controlled.

Detached.

Yet deep inside—

Something unfamiliar stirred.

In his previous life, he had been nothing.

A dying cripple trapped in a hospital bed.

A man who had never once been seen.

Never noticed.

Never desired.

Now—

he was.

For a moment, a thought surfaced.

So this is what it feels like… to be noticed.

But it disappeared quickly.

A villain does not indulge.

A villain observes.

He adjusted his posture and walked forward.

Steady.

Unhurried.

Controlled.

Not far ahead, he saw them.

Zhang Wei and Li Hao—his so-called friends.

Second-tier wealthy heirs. Not top families, but still above most students.

And beside them stood a girl.

Beautiful.

Sharp-featured.

Materialistic.

Her name was Wang Lili.

And slightly apart from them—

a boy in simple clothing.

Quiet.

Unremarkable at first glance.

But Lin Chen's gaze stopped on him instantly.

Because only he could see what others could not.

Ding.

A cold voice echoed in his mind.

"Target detected."

"Fate anomaly identified."

Lin Chen's eyes narrowed slightly.

So it was him.

His name was Ye Tianming.

A Son of Luck.

A chosen existence of this merged world.

To everyone else—

just a poor student.

Nothing more.

Nothing special.

Zhang Wei laughed loudly.

"What are you doing standing here, Ye Tianming?"

Wang Lili leaned slightly toward Zhang Wei.

"I already told you. We're not from the same world."

Li Hao added casually.

"Know your place. Some people are born to stay at the bottom."

Ye Tianming stood silent.

His fists tightened slightly.

But he did not respond.

Not yet.

Lin Chen observed everything calmly.

Like watching a script only he could see.

So this is the starting node…

In the original story, this moment would have been Ye Tianming's humiliation trigger.

His breaking point.

The start of his rise.

But now—

there was a variable.

Lin Chen.

He stepped forward.

Slowly.

Unhurried.

"Interesting."

His voice cut through the group.

All eyes turned toward him.

Zhang Wei straightened immediately.

"Brother Chen!"

Wang Lili's expression shifted slightly.

Even Ye Tianming's gaze lifted.

Lin Chen stopped beside them.

His eyes briefly swept over Ye Tianming.

Then he spoke calmly.

"You're all very confident."

A pause.

"Especially when judging someone you don't understand."

Zhang Wei laughed awkwardly.

"Brother Chen, he's just a poor student. No need to waste attention."

Li Hao nodded.

"Exactly. People like him don't belong here."

Wang Lili glanced at Ye Tianming with faint disdain.

"Some people should accept reality early."

Each word pressed down lightly.

Not violent.

But humiliating.

Structured.

Socially crushing.

Ye Tianming's expression darkened slightly.

His breathing slowed.

A faint pressure began building inside him.

Invisible.

But real.

Lin Chen watched carefully.

Then—

he moved.

Not loudly.

Not aggressively.

Just a single step forward.

And spoke.

Quietly.

Precisely.

"Do you know what separates people in this world?"

A pause.

"It's not money."

"Not status."

His gaze shifted slightly toward Ye Tianming.

"It's whether reality chooses to acknowledge you."

A strange silence followed.

No one understood what he meant.

Zhang Wei frowned.

"…Brother Chen?"

But Lin Chen did not explain.

Because only he could see it.

Ding.

A system notification exploded in his mind.

"Fate trajectory detected."

"Humiliation node active."

"Target: Ye Tianming."

Lin Chen's eyes sharpened.

Now.

Wang Lili sighed.

"Let's go. Waste of time."

Zhang Wei nodded.

"Yeah, not worth it."

But then—

Lin Chen spoke again.

Calm.

Light.

Deadly precise.

"Waste of time?"

He tilted his head slightly.

"I don't think so."

His gaze returned to Ye Tianming.

Just briefly.

Then—

a faint smile appeared.

"People like him…"

"…tend to become interesting later."

Something flickered in Ye Tianming's eyes.

A reaction.

Small.

But real.

And at that moment—

the system in Lin Chen's mind changed tone.

Sharper.

Final.

Ding.

"Host interference detected."

"Momentum disruption initiated."

A pause.

Then—

the true system notification arrived.

"Host has successfully broken Ye Tianming's momentum."

Lin Chen's expression didn't change.

But inside—

something shifted.

"Ye Tianming Luck Value: -50"

"Host Luck Value: +50"

A second later—

"Villain Points +100 awarded."

Lin Chen's eyes narrowed slightly.

So it worked.

Ye Tianming suddenly staggered half a step.

His expression changed for the first time.

Not anger.

Not humiliation.

But confusion.

As if something invisible had just suppressed him.

A strange heaviness pressed down on him.

For reasons he could not explain—

his momentum had collapsed.

Lin Chen turned away calmly.

No celebration.

No satisfaction.

Just observation.

Behind him—

laughter resumed.

Mockery continued.

Nothing had changed for them.

But Lin Chen knew.

Something had already broken.

A seed had been planted.

A crack had formed in something far larger than this moment.

As he walked away, the system spoke again.

"Warning."

"Target destiny resistance increasing."

Lin Chen paused slightly.

Then smiled faintly.

"…Good."

Because that meant one thing.

The world had finally started noticing him too.

And far behind him—

Ye Tianming slowly lifted his head.

His eyes were no longer confused.

They were darker now.

As if something inside him had begun to awaken.
