Chapter 1 - Part 1 Before Sunrise at Luna Café

If I told you that Hong Kong had already awakened before I even managed to open my eyes properly… would you believe it?

The sound of traffic lights, footsteps rushing across the streets, cars and motorbikes roaring—this is what morning in this city feels like. Everyone is already on their way to work, trying to earn a living as usual.

And me? Well… don't think I'm useless or anything.

I own a small café in this city.

But still—this is the fifth time this week I've been late.

"Yes… I'm late for opening again," I whispered to myself, forcing my tired legs to move faster even though they had no energy left.

Oh right, I forgot to introduce myself.

My name is Chloe Wong. I'm a Hong Kong–mixed girl, and also a mother of one.

But don't get it wrong—the child isn't mine. She's the daughter of an old friend. And believe me… that kid goes to school earlier than I even open my café.

(Honestly, I'm the worst mother ever… and I still have the nerve to act proud.)

My hair? A totally mess. No brushing, no styling—just survival mode.

My bag barely closes, only half-zipped.

And I was carrying ten packs of coffee beans at the same time.

Yes… this is the life of a "strong woman."

I walked past a bookstore when someone inside suddenly caught my attention.

That annoying man… finally came back.

I'll deal with him tonight. Right now—work first.

I walked faster… almost running.

"Why is it always like this… why can't I just wake up like a normal person?" I muttered, breathing heavily.

Just then—

A bicycle.

It stopped right in front of me.

I slowed down for a second.

"…Whose bicycle is this?"

I looked around. No one seemed to care. Everyone was rushing across the street like usual.

Three rounds already I walked in circles, trying to find the owner.

No one.

My exhausted brain gave up and made the decision for me.

"…Fine. Just this once. I'll borrow it. Sorry, big brother, I'm really in a hurry."

And then—I rode off.

10 minutes later.

Finally, I arrived at the café.

"Chloe!! What are you doing again? I told you this morning I had to go to Kowloon! You know it takes 30 minutes by taxi from our café! I'm on patrol duty! Why are you late AND stealing a bike?!"

My younger brother—Si Yang Wong—was already shouting the moment I stepped in.

"Stop, stop! Si Yang, don't start the fight!" I quickly said, handing him snacks and coffee.

"Take this. Give it to your police team. Treat it as my apology."

"And here—some money too. Good luck. Congrats on finally following your idol."

"Idol?! That's our father!! The station chief is our dad!! I am in serious trouble!!"

I froze for a second

"…Oh."

"Whatever. I'm taking yang yang to school already. Don't forget to pick her up later. I'm going!"

And just like that, he ran out.

Honestly… what kind of life is this?

I turned back, organizing coffee beans and preparing for the day.

My café wasn't very busy with walk-ins. Most customers ordered online.

Today was the same.

5 strawberry pies and 10 iced coffee lattes.

Still not ready.

But I'll handle it later.

Then—

Ding.

The doorbell rang.

I looked up.

"Welcome to Luna Café. What would you like to order?" I greeted while still working with my hands.

"I'm here to pick up an order. Name: Ivy Chan. Is it ready?"

That voice.

That presence.

That scent.

It was him.

Lucas.

I wasn't ready to face him.

But maybe… he was somehow connected to Ivy.

"…Yes, senior. Please wait a moment."

He stayed silent.

We stared at each other.

Time slowed down.

Neither of us spoke.

Just silence… and a long, heavy look between two people who clearly had a past they didn't talk about.
