Chapter 10 - Ask David

Jay's POV

The room was still spinning from everything that had happened.

Keifer's arm was around me, David was standing near the door looking like he wanted to break something, and the rest of Section E had completely forgotten about my impossible choice because all their attention was fixed on Felix's phone.

"Guys..." Felix said again.

"Read it," Calix replied.

Felix swallowed before reading the message out loud.

Some memories were buried for a reason.

Meet me at the old auditorium before sunrise.

Ask David what happened three years ago.

Nobody reacted immediately.

Not because the message was confusing.

Because every single one of us looked at David at the same time.

"What?" David asked.

Felix lowered his phone.

"Why does it mention you?"

"How should I know?"

Ci-n frowned.

"Bro, don't answer a question with another question."

David rolled his eyes.

"Because someone is obviously trying to mess with us."

"Then why specifically mention you?" Eman asked.

For the first time, David didn't have an answer.

The silence made me uncomfortable.

David always had something to say.

Always.

Now he looked like he was carefully choosing every word.

Before anyone could push him further, Felix's phone buzzed again.

The sound was so sudden that everyone jumped.

"Please tell me that's a food delivery notification," Calix muttered.

"It isn't."

Felix opened the message.

This time it was a photo.

We crowded around him.

The picture showed a school event from years ago.

A familiar banner hung behind us.

A familiar stage.

A familiar group.

Section E.

"Wait," Ci-n said.

"I remember this."

"So do I," Felix replied.

"It was during our first year."

The more I stared at the photo, the more memories came back.

We had spent the entire day together.

Taking pictures.

Making fun of each other.

Arguing over stupid things.

Just being us.

At first everything looked normal.

Then Keifer pointed at the corner of the picture.

"Zoom in."

Felix did.

My stomach tightened.

Someone had been circled in red.

David.

Nobody spoke for a moment.

"Okay..." Eman said slowly. "That's creepy."

Another message appeared underneath.

Ask him what really happened that day.

David immediately stepped forward.

"Give me the phone."

Felix pulled it away.

"No."

"Felix."

"No."

The room suddenly felt tense again.

David's jaw clenched.

"You're acting weird," Calix said.

"I'm not."

"You kind of are."

David laughed, but it sounded forced.

"Guys, it's literally just a photo."

"Then why are you so bothered by it?" Keifer asked.

That question hit harder than any of us expected.

Because David didn't answer.

I looked at him carefully.

He wasn't angry anymore.

He looked nervous.

And seeing David nervous was almost impossible.

"David," I said quietly.

His eyes met mine.

"What happened that day?"

The question hung in the air.

Nobody interrupted.

Nobody joked.

Nobody looked away.

For the first time all night, it felt like we were finally getting close to something.

David stared at me for several seconds before shaking his head.

"Nothing happened."

"You're lying."

The words left my mouth before I could stop them.

The entire room went silent.

David looked hurt for a second.

Then it disappeared.

"What?"

"You're lying," I repeated. "I don't know about the others, but I know you. Every time you're hiding something, you avoid looking at people."

Nobody expected me to say that.

Not even me.

David laughed quietly.

"Wow."

"David—"

"You think you know me that well?"

I didn't answer.

Because honestly, I wasn't sure anymore.

Another notification appeared.

Felix looked down.

His face instantly lost color.

"Guys..."

"What now?" Ci-n asked.

Felix slowly turned the screen toward us.

The new message was only one sentence long.

If David won't tell the truth, I will.

This time, even David looked scared.
