Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: The First Lesson

The folder sat on the desk between us.

Heavy.

Not because of its weight.

Because of what it represented.

Opportunity.

Or a trap.

Maybe both.

I stared at it for several seconds.

Then finally opened it.

The first page wasn't what I expected.

No business plans.

No investments.

No shortcuts.

Just one sentence.

"Power belongs to people who create value."

I looked up immediately.

Adrian was watching carefully.

"That's it?"

He smiled slightly.

I flipped the page.

And froze.

Lists.

Names.

Companies.

Startup projects.

Scholarship programs.

Business competitions.

Leadership programs.

Dozens of opportunities.

Hundreds maybe.

My confusion must have shown.

Because Adrian laughed softly.

"What did you expect?"

"A secret plan."

"A billion dollars."

"A magic solution."

His grin widened.

"That's the problem."

He walked around the desk slowly.

"Everyone wants a shortcut."

A pause.

"Nobody wants the process."

I hated how much sense that made.

Adrian pointed toward the folder.

"Your girlfriend's father built influence over decades."

Another pause.

"You thought you'd catch him in six months?"

I stayed silent.

Because honestly—

Part of me had.

"Good."

Adrian nodded.

"At least you're honest."

He sat across from me.

The city skyline stretching behind him.

Looking more like a battlefield than a view now.

"Let's start with reality."

His tone became serious.

"Right now, what do you have?"

The question irritated me instantly.

Because the answer felt obvious.

"Not much."

"Wrong."

Immediate.

Sharp.

I blinked.

"What?"

"Try again."

I frowned slightly.

Thinking.

"A bad reputation."

"Wrong."

"Financial problems."

"Wrong."

"An angry billionaire trying to ruin my life."

That actually made Adrian laugh.

"True."

A pause.

"But still wrong."

I folded my arms.

Now genuinely annoyed.

"Then what do I have?"

Adrian's expression changed.

For the first time—

He looked impressed.

"You have attention."

Silence.

"What?"

"The entire city knows your name now."

He pointed toward the folder.

"People spend millions trying to get noticed."

Another pause.

"You got it accidentally."

I hadn't thought about that.

Not once.

"Most people become victims when life hits them."

Adrian leaned forward slightly.

"Smart people build from it."

The room became quiet.

Because suddenly—

The situation looked different.

Not better.

Different.

Her father attacked me publicly.

But in doing so—

He also made me visible.

Adrian could see the realization happening.

"There it is."

He smiled.

"Now you're thinking."

My phone buzzed suddenly.

A message.

Unknown number.

Again.

I opened it cautiously.

Then froze.

Completely froze.

One sentence.

That's all it was.

"Don't stop fighting."

No name.

No explanation.

But I knew immediately.

Her.

My chest tightened instantly.

Because somehow—

Somehow—

She found a way.

Adrian noticed my expression.

"Good news?"

I looked at the message again.

Reading it twice.

Three times.

Then for the first time in days—

I smiled.

A real smile.

"Yeah."

I slipped the phone back into my pocket.

"Very good news."

Adrian studied me carefully.

Then nodded once.

Like he understood.

"Then let's get started."

He pushed another document toward me.

The title sat boldly across the top page.

Future Leaders Competition

National level.

Prestigious.

Highly competitive.

The kind of opportunity that changed careers.

Changed futures.

I looked at Adrian.

Then at the document.

Then back at the city outside.

For the first time—

The future didn't look empty anymore.

It looked difficult.

Dangerous.

But possible.

And maybe—

Just maybe—

That was enough.
