Chapter 9 - 9 화 Let's Go Meet Them!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

It's already been two months since I started tagging along with these Menos Grande. During this time, I've realized that while they lack individual egos, they possess a primal instinct to look after their own pack. Not long ago, one of the Menos Grande returned from Soul Society with grievous wounds. Right then, another Menos fired a Negacion to shield its comrade, helping it narrowingly escape certain death. Seeing that, it's clear these mindless giants have a surprisingly strong bond with their kind.

Beyond that, their behavior is entirely hive-minded. They hunt in a massive pack, preying mostly on standard Hollows and Huge Hollows. They rarely ever make a trip to Soul Society; the one that went recently seemed like a rare fluke rather than a regular occurrence.

'There's really nothing to them besides moving in a herd. In fact, when it comes to hunting, I'm far superior. I have a will of my own, and I can deliberately choose to devour other Menos Grande.'

I spent two months with this herd hoping to discover something more, some secret to their existence, but there was nothing. If that's the case, what am I missing? I need to find that missing link if I ever want to evolve into an Adjuchas.

'I guess there's only one way left.'

The only remaining option was clear. It was risky as hell, but I had to observe a real Adjuchas. Rather than watching these stagnant Menos Grande who never change, observing one that has already successfully evolved might reveal the secret ingredient. It's a gamble, but staying as a mindless Gillian forever is a fate worse than death. First, I needed to find a "kind" Adjuchas—if such a thing even exists.

Finding one shouldn't take too long. Even now, I can feel the Reiatsu of Adjuchas-class monsters clashing several times a day. Since evolving into a Menos Grande, I've become far more sensitive to Spiritual Pressure, and thanks to my massive height, I can see and sense things across the vast Hueco Mundo desert from a significant distance. There was one spot in particular that caught my attention.

'I've been feeling a powerful Reiatsu coming from over there for a while now.'

Hueco Mundo is a hellscape where Adjuchas fight constantly, but the battles in that specific direction always end remarkably fast. And the victor? It's always the same Reiatsu signature. Over the past two months, I've sensed about five battles in that area, and every single time, that same presence emerged on top.

'Should I go?'

If I head there, I won't have to waste time searching; I'll run straight into a powerful Adjuchas. The problem, of course, is that it is an Adjuchas. I've felt it many times—their ferocity is beyond imagination. To them, anything that isn't themselves is either an enemy or a snack. Approaching one is practically a suicide mission.

'Terrifying. Absolutely terrifying.'

Still, it felt like a waste to go wandering off in a random direction when there was a confirmed specimen so close by. After all, it's practically in my backyard.

Thump! Thump!

If every Adjuchas has a rotten personality anyway, I might as well pick the closest one. I began to march toward that Reiatsu, my heavy, mindless Gillian footsteps thundering across the white sand.
