Chapter 3 - Something Starts Watching

The next morning didn't feel different.

But something in the world had shifted anyway.

Darian noticed it first in the smallest ways.

A delay in a traffic light that didn't match timing patterns.

A passing drone that stayed in place too long.

A silence between city sounds that felt… measured.

Not natural.

Calculated.

He didn't react outwardly.

But internally, he recorded it.

Lina was already awake when he entered the living room.

Sitting cross-legged on the sofa.

Talking to herself.

Or maybe the air.

"Clouds today look like… broken pillows."

She noticed him immediately.

"Hey scary man!"

"…Don't call me that."

"But you are scary."

Darian didn't respond.

She swung her legs.

"Are we going somewhere today?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Because you don't need to."

Lina tilted her head.

"That's boring."

He ignored her.

But something outside shifted again.

He felt it more clearly now.

Observation.

⚡ First System Trace

That afternoon, his phone buzzed.

Once.

Then stopped.

No number.

No ID.

Just a single encrypted line:

"UNIDENTIFIED SUBJECT INTERACTION DETECTED"

Darian stared at it for a moment.

Then deleted it without expression.

But the fact it appeared at all meant one thing.

He had been noticed.

Lina leaned over slightly.

"What was that?"

"Nothing."

"You frowned a little."

"I didn't."

"You did."

Darian exhaled slowly.

"…Eat something."

"I'm not hungry."

"You will be."

"That sounds like a threat."

"It isn't."

She smiled anyway.

🖤 The First Threat Approaches

That evening, the city outside felt tighter.

Like space itself was compressing around their location.

Darian stood near the window.

Still.

Watching.

Lina sat behind him, drawing random shapes on paper.

"Hey," she said suddenly.

"What."

"Do you ever feel like someone is thinking about you really hard?"

Darian paused slightly.

"…Yes."

Lina nodded like that made sense.

"I think that's happening now."

That made him turn slightly.

"Stay inside."

"I am inside."

"Stay where I can see you."

Lina paused.

Then nodded.

"Okay."

Outside—

three figures stood across the street.

Not civilians.

Not visible in normal awareness patterns.

One of them spoke into a hidden channel:

"Target confirmed. Subject interacting with anomaly."

Another voice responded:

"Retrieve protocol?"

A pause.

Then:

"Observe first."

🖤 Darian Moves First

Darian closed the curtains.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

Then turned toward Lina.

"Come here."

She did.

Without hesitation.

He crouched slightly in front of her.

"When I say stay somewhere," he said, voice lower than usual, "you stay."

Lina blinked.

"…Is something wrong?"

"Yes."

"Like what?"

"…People outside don't belong here."

She thought about that.

Then nodded.

"Okay."

No fear.

Just acceptance.

That made it worse.

⚡ First Breach Attempt

The front door lock clicked.

Once.

Then again.

Not forced.

Tested.

Darian moved instantly.

Silent.

Controlled.

He stepped toward the door.

Paused.

Listened.

Three breathing patterns outside.

Coordinated.

He exhaled once.

Then opened the door.

The hallway outside was empty.

But not truly empty.

Something had already moved through it.

Darian's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…Professional."

Behind him, Lina peeked out carefully.

"What is it?"

He didn't turn.

"Go back."

"I can see your face from here."

"Go back."

She didn't argue this time.

Just stepped back slowly.

🖤 First Elimination

Darian stepped fully into the hallway.

The lights flickered once.

A shadow moved too fast on his left.

He didn't step back.

He stepped forward.

One motion.

One impact.

Silence again.

The body fell without sound.

Another movement behind him—

gone before it finished forming.

The third hesitated.

That hesitation cost everything.

Within seconds—

the hallway was empty again.

Darian stood still.

No change in expression.

But now he knew.

This wasn't random.

This was directed.

He returned inside.

Lina was still standing where he left her.

"Hey," she said softly.

"…You're not okay."

"I am."

"You don't look like you are."

Darian paused slightly.

Then:

"Go to your room."

Lina hesitated.

Then nodded.

"Okay."

She walked away quietly.

And for the first time—

Darian Korr realized something he didn't like.

The world had started responding to her existence.
