Chapter 4 - The process of magic training (1)

After receiving their Grimoires, Brian and Yuno rushed back to the church in Hage village without anyone knowing.

Everyone at the church was extremely astonished to see the two of them return in the early morning; they were even more amazed and incredulous to learn that both of them had been chosen by the four-leaf clover Grimoire.

The small church, which was already very lively due to having many children, now became noisier than ever even though it was only early morning.

Brian and Yuno were both very happy to have people to share their great joy with, but the two of them also quickly asked everyone at the church not to disclose the fact that they were chosen by the four-leaf clover Grimoires.

The two of them had only just received their Grimoires; they were still too weak to deal with the trouble that could come their way in the future.

Everything followed without anything special; everyone at the church agreed to help keep the secret for the two of them, helping them avoid unnecessary trouble.

A week passed since Brian and Yuno received their Grimoires. Every day was the same, as both of them began practicing magic from early morning until late at night. Except for time to eat and sleep, all their time during the day was utilized by them to make themselves stronger.

During their practice time, both of them developed combat styles that suited them best based on their magic attributes and personal strengths.

Yuno was not much different from the original work; he focused on learning and mastering types of long-range offensive spells, leaning towards casting speed and the power of the attacks.

With a massive amount of mana, coupled with excellent mana control, Yuno's strength quickly made leaps and bounds. Leaving behind his former self before receiving the Grimoire.

In addition, practicing together with Brian had a positive influence on Yuno. He not only trained powerful offensive magic at mid and long-range, but even close-range offensive spells, defense, and self-reinforcement were developed by him and recorded into the Grimoire.

Compared to competing with someone without mana like Asta, Brian was a person who possessed mana and magical talent no less than Yuno, so it was understandable that Yuno developed his Wind Magic to be more comprehensive.

On Brian's side, he possessed Earth Magic. Comparing this magic to a type of magic prominent for its mobility and freedom of combat style like Wind Magic, Brian's innate magic was clearly stronger in terms of defensive capability, terrain control, and both close and mid-range combat.

Due to the slow and immobile nature of the magic attribute, Brian chose a combat style no different from a true magic warrior.

The types of spells that he focused on developing mostly had defensive effects, self-reinforcement, close-range attacks, and mid-range attacks at an extremely powerful and practical level in combat.

And just like the way Yuno received development thanks to practicing with Brian, he also received similar positive development thanks to Yuno.

Due to the slow but steady nature of Earth Magic, Brian developed several spells that allowed him to attack opponents from a long distance by accumulating mana over a long period then attacking the opponent in a single strike.

Not only solving the problem of long-range attacks, Brian also overcame the weakness of lack of mobility in Earth Magic by expanding his effective spell-casting range even further.

If he was not fast or flexible enough to dodge surprise attacks, then Brian either had to know the opponent's actions in advance to react in time, or he had to strengthen his defense to the point that he could ignore the opponent's attacks.

And he followed both of those directions, developing several types of spells that allowed himself to meet those two conditions.

"Wind Creation Magic: Wind Blade Shower!"

In the middle of an empty plot of land with no people, a massive surge of mana suddenly exploded, blowing the surrounding dirt, rocks, and grass into the air.

Standing in the middle of that empty plot were Brian and Yuno, the ones who had been practicing magic here for the past week.

"This spell of yours is sharper now, Yuno."

Brian stood watching dozens of blades made of wind appear right in mid-air. Feeling the danger approaching, the brown-haired youth remained calm, not rushing his actions at all.

"Lo mà phòng thủ đi."

Yuno gave a laugh, his arm reaching forward. The sharp wind blades immediately shot toward Brian at extremely high speed.

"Earth Creation Magic: Earth Shield!"

Brian's Grimoire flipped quickly through each page, stopping at a page that contained records of one of his specialized defensive spells.

The mana in his body flared up; a large shield formed from the Earth attribute appeared in front of Brian, its size large enough to shield his body from Yuno's offensive spell.

Thump!!

The wind blades created by Yuno collided directly with Brian's earth shield. Yuno's attack was a spell specialized for multi-target attacks, but if he concentrated all the existing blades into a single point and then attacked, there were not many defensive spells that could withstand this attack.

An ordinary mage would not be able to withstand Yuno's offensive spell, but his opponent at this moment was Brian, and the opponent was not an ordinary mage.

After Yuno's attack which was like a rain of arrows and a storm of bullets, Brian's shield still stood firm in front of its owner. Although it was somewhat damaged, it was still possible to use this earth shield to withstand one more attack.

Earth Shield, this defensive spell of Brian's was not simply creating a shield made of earth; it created a shield with a special ability.

Depending on the location and the intensity of the strike of the attack that Brian's earth shield received, it would automatically adjust the mana density and surface hardness at the position being attacked so that it could withstand the opponent's attack in the best way possible.

The moment Yuno controlled his wind blades to attack a single position on Brian's earth shield, Brian's earth shield also concentrated its defensive ability into the single point that Yuno attacked.

For this reason, Brian still kept his defensive spell after blocking Yuno's offensive spell.

"Alright, it's my turn."

Brian's eyes locked onto Yuno, who was preparing to dodge his attack.

Brian's arm lightly touched the earth shield in front of him, the mana in his body surging, transferring just enough mana into his arm. His damaged earth shield followed that and began to transform its shape, from a large shield turning into a spearhead.

In the process of training magic with Yuno, Brian had realized a rather interesting thing about his Earth Creation Magic.

Different from types of Creation Magic with attributes that were less physical in nature such as Fire, Wind, etc., the things created from Earth Creation Magic lasted significantly longer.

And as long as those created things were not completely destroyed, the amount of mana used to create them would still be there to maintain their existence, not dissipating immediately after a short time like other magic attributes.

Brian had discovered this interesting difference, which was why he came up with the idea that: he would reuse the remaining amount of mana from those things just created, utilizing them to save mana for the next time he used Earth Creation Magic.

This small trick could only be applied to types of Creation Magic with suitable attributes, but that much was enough to create a huge advantage when fighting enemies, especially in long-drawn-out battles.

"Earth Creation Magic: Earth Spear!"

Brian grabbed the spearhead that had just been created, the mana in his body continuously flowing toward his arm.

"Try dodging this, Yuno."

Finishing his words, Brian threw the spear he was holding straight toward Yuno, who was standing a long distance away from him.

Since this was only practice, Brian did not use too much mana when attacking Yuno; the speed of the spear was just enough for Yuno to dodge it if he was careful and reacted in time.
