Chapter 5 - Should I Kill Her

"I don't want to get back to my life." Sarah's hand found his, gripping it tightly. "I want to stay here. With you. Making sure you're safe."

Her eyes searched his face desperately.

"You almost died, Sean. Do you understand that? Two weeks ago, I thought I'd lost you. And now you're talking about going back to school, exposing yourself to stress and those girls and—"

She cut herself off, breathing hard.

WARNING:

Sarah's Affection: 73% → 71%

New Debuff Applied: "Emotional Distance Detected"

Sarah's Mental State: Deteriorating

"He wants to leave. He wants to go back to them. After everything I've done..."

Sean's stomach dropped. The affection had decreased, but somehow that felt more dangerous than it rising.

"Sarah." He squeezed her hand back. "I'm not trying to abandon you. But I can't be the Sean you knew if I'm stuck in bed forever. I need to... remember who I am. What my life was like."

It was close enough to the truth.

Sarah was quiet for a long time. When she finally spoke, her voice was small.

"Promise me something."

"What?"

"Promise me that when you go back to school... you won't forget about me. About us." Her grip tightened. "Promise me you won't let those other girls change you."

Sean looked into her eyes and saw desperation there. Fear. And beneath it all, that dark possessiveness that had never quite gone away.

"I promise," he said.

It was what she needed to hear.

AFFECTION EVENT TRIGGERED

Sarah's Affection: 71% → 74%

"He promised. He won't leave me. He won't abandon me like everyone else."

Mental State: Stabilized (temporary)

Sarah leaned forward and pressed her forehead against his.

"Good," she whispered. "Because if you broke that promise... I don't know what I'd do."

She pulled back and smiled—the same gentle, caring smile from earlier.

"You should rest now. I'll bring you dinner later. And tomorrow morning, I'll help you get ready for school."

"Sarah, you don't have to—"

"I want to."

She stood and walked to the door, pausing at the threshold.

"Oh, and Sean?" She looked back over her shoulder. "That medicine Mira brought? Don't drink it yet. Let me check it first. Just to make sure it's safe."

Before Sean could respond, she was gone.

He stared at the closed door, heart pounding.

Slowly, he reached for the crystal vial on the nightstand.

His fingers had just brushed the smooth glass when a new notification appeared.

WARNING:

Item Status Changed:

Lesser Elixir of Vitality → Lesser Elixir of Vitality (Monitored)

Sarah is watching this item. Consuming it without her permission will trigger consequences.

Affection impact if consumed: -15%

Danger level if consumed: SEVERE

Sean pulled his hand back like he'd been burned.

She's tracking the medicine. She'll know if I drink it.

He collapsed back against the pillows, mind racing.

Tomorrow he'd go to school. Tomorrow he'd be exposed to dozens of potential characters, each with their own affection meters and trigger conditions.

Tomorrow he'd have to pretend to be someone he wasn't, in a world he didn't understand, surrounded by girls who might or might not want to kill him.

And through it all, Sarah would be watching.

Always watching.

Sean closed his eyes and tried to slow his breathing.

This is insane. This whole situation is insane.

But what choice did he have?

Die here in bed from the illness debuff?

Or risk everything on the hope that he could navigate this nightmare long enough to find a way out?

From the kitchen, he heard Sarah humming again. That same cheerful, innocent melody.

Sean opened his status screen and stared at his stamina: 47/200.

Not enough. Not nearly enough.

Tomorrow was going to be hell.

-------------------

[After Eating Dinner,Sean Returns to his room]

Sean lay in bed, staring at the ceiling as darkness settled over the room. His stamina had recovered to 52 points after the soup, but exhaustion weighed on him like a physical thing.

The illness debuff pulsed in his vision. His body felt heavy, unresponsive.

Tomorrow. School tomorrow. Just need to survive until morning.

He heard the soft creak of the door opening.

Footsteps, barely audible against the carpet. The mattress shifted as weight settled onto the bed behind him.

Sean's entire body went rigid.

A hand slid around his waist. Warmth pressed against his back. The scent of flowers , jasmine and something sweeter filled his senses.

Sarah.

"Is this... Sarah?" Sean kept his voice calm, quiet, even as his heart hammered against his ribs.

This was the first time he'd ever been this close to a girl. In his previous life, he'd spent most of his time in his room, anime, games, online forums. His social life had been virtually nonexistent. The closest he'd ever gotten to romance was dating simulators.

This is nothing like a game. Nothing like a game at all.

"Yes, it's me," Sarah whispered against his shoulder blade. Her breath was warm through the thin fabric of his shirt.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm cuddling you so I can fall asleep." Her arm tightened around him. "I love your scent. It makes me feel safe."

Sean's mind raced. This was escalating too fast. He needed to—

Instinctively, he turned to face her, to talk this out properly.

The words died in his throat.

Sarah wore a thin silk nightgown, pale blue, almost translucent in the moonlight filtering through the curtains. The neckline plunged low, and the fabric clung to her curves in ways that left very little to imagination.

Sean immediately turned back around, face burning.

"Sarah, what are you wearing?!"

"You don't like it?" Her voice had shifted, taken on a different tone. Softer. More dangerous.

She pressed closer, eliminating any space between them.

"It's not that, I just—"

"Was it her?" Sarah's grip tightened. "That student council president. Is she the reason you're pulling away from me?"

"What? No, Sarah—"

"Should I kill her?"

The words were spoken so casually, so matter-of-factly, that for a moment Sean thought he'd misheard.

"You're joking, right? About killing her?"

Sarah smiled. Sean couldn't see it, but he could feel it in the way her body shifted, the way her breathing changed.
