I was not asleep. That was the first thing I understood.
I couldn't open my eyes. I couldn't move my arms or legs, and when I tried to call for Rhys, nothing came out.
But I was awake.
The space around me wasn't a room. I couldn't see walls or a floor, but I knew I was still inside my own body. I could feel my heart beating somewhere far away. I could feel myself breathing even though I wasn't the one doing it.
And I could feel the curse. It was still there. The black mass hadn't passed through me. It had gone in and stayed.
I remembered running across the field. Reid in front of it. Rhys trying to reach us.
Then the impact.
After that, this.
Something pushed against me. I pushed back.
I didn't know how else to describe it. There was no real door in front of me, but that was how my mind understood what I was doing. I was keeping something on the other side of me.
