Chapter 1 - The shadow of secrets

A Mystery / Suspense Novel

Chapter 1: The Locked Door

It was a cold evening in Karachi. A soft wind moved through the streets of Gulistan-e-Johar, and the yellow glow of the streetlights spread across the empty road.

Tahir stood on the balcony of his house, looking down at the silent street. Suddenly, his eyes fell on the old bungalow across the road, a place that had been locked and abandoned for the past ten years. Tonight, for the first time, a faint light was glowing in the upstairs window.

"How is this possible?" he whispered to himself.

Everyone in the neighborhood said that the owner of the bungalow, Nawab Farooq, had mysteriously disappeared one night. No one ever found out where he went. There was only one rumor—that he had hidden something extremely valuable inside the house.

At around 11 PM, Tahir saw a dark shadow slip through the gate of the bungalow.

His heart began to race

Tonight, he decided, he would uncover the truth.

He slowly crossed the road and approached the gate. It was half open. As he stepped inside, the dry leaves beneath his feet crackled loudly in the silence.

The house was still.

Then suddenly, footsteps echoed from upstairs

Tahir pulled out his flashlight and moved toward the staircase...

Chapter 2: The Name Written in Blood

At the top of the stairs, he found a half-open room. He pushed the door, and it creaked open.

On the wall, written in red, was a single name:Zara

Tahir froze.

Who was Zara?

Before he could think further, he heard a whisper behind him.

"Leave... before it's too late."

He turned around quickly, but no one was there.Only darkness.

Chapter 3: The Hidden Diary

Inside an old wooden cupboard, Tahir discovered a dusty diary. Its pages were yellow and fragile.

The first line read:

"If anyone finds this, know that the truth lies beneath the floor."

As he read further, he learned that Zara was Nawab Farooq's daughter, who had vanished many years ago under mysterious circumstances.

The diary hinted at betrayal, greed, and a secret room hidden somewhere inside the bungalow.

Chapter 4: Beneath the Floorboards

Tahir returned the next night with tools.

In the center of the upstairs room, one of the floorboards sounded hollow.

He pried it open.

Beneath it was a narrow staircase leading underground.

The air was cold and heavy.

At the bottom, he found an iron chest—and beside it, a faded photograph of Zara.

But before he could touch anything, the door behind him slammed shut.

Chapter 5: The Final Truth

Inside the chest were old documents, jewels, and a confession letter.

Nawab Farooq had never disappeared.

He had been murdered.

The killer was someone from the neighborhood who had been living among them all these years.

As Tahir read the final line, footsteps approached from the darkness.

A voice spoke:

"So... you finally found the truth."

Tahir slowly turned around.

Standing in front of him was the one person he trusted the most
