Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Escape

"Run, run!"

Neva screamed hysterically in her heart, her body following suit.

She passed directly by the Insect Bone Frog, easily dodging the Insect Bone Frog writhing in pain on the ground.

Glancing at the Worm army behind her, Neva only felt her body go limp and uncontrollable, her spine chilling.

Without any hesitation, the panicking Neva randomly chose one of the two tunnels ahead.

Taiwan Novel Network is good for entertainment and very practical.

She had crawled from the bottom of the tunnel, and that direction had the most Worms; although the other two tunnels also had Worms crawling out, their numbers were relatively small.

Successfully dodging several Worm bites, Neva's speed reached her current limit.

If only she had feet! Crawling was too slow.

Neva deeply realized the difficulty of being a Worm; she truly missed the days of running on two feet when she was human.

Now, all that seemed out of reach... The annoying croaking sound behind her abruptly stopped, leaving only the hissing of Worms. She didn't need to think to know that the Insect Bone Frog had been torn to shreds by the Worm army behind.

According to the nature of those Worms, they would surely engage in a massive battle on the spot, fighting each other to a bloody pulp.

Neva couldn't help but look back, almost throwing up her breakfast.

The Insect Bone Frog was completely submerged by Worms, and a huge Worm mound had appeared on the spot. Worms from all around were still gathering and climbing, biting, gnawing, and squeezing each other.

The Worms in the middle of the mound were directly flattened, with blood plasma and internal organs dripping and sliding out, making one's scalp tingle.

Fortunately, things were as she expected; most of the Worms ignored her, with only a dozen or so still chasing her relentlessly.

Seeing those few Worms, an unnamable anger rose in Neva's heart.

"Why aren't you going for the food? Why are you chasing me?!"

Unfortunately, those Worms didn't understand what Neva was saying. Perhaps they simply saw Neva running and instinctively wanted to chase.

Knowing she was wasting her effort, Neva began to focus on escaping.

She didn't know how many forks in the road she had passed or how far she had run; she only knew she was completely lost.

Yet, several Worms were still chasing her relentlessly, and Neva couldn't help but marvel at their perseverance.

Entering another fork, Neva desperately propelled her body forward.

But Misfortune never comes alone; she hadn't run far before discovering that ahead was an insurmountable rock wall!

The moment she saw the rock wall, Neva's head felt as if it had been struck by a heavy club.

Where's the path! Why is there no path!

Neva's mental state was in complete collapse. She suspected that her current Bad Luck must be related to that ability called [Bad Luck].

Neva muttered in her heart, her gaze inadvertently glancing to the side.

She noticed a very narrow small hole on one side of the rock wall. Because this small hole's position was blocked by a protruding rock, it was very Concealed, which was why Neva hadn't noticed it before.

The entrance was narrow and dim, not looking ideal.

But now, she couldn't worry about that much!

Neva gritted her teeth and immediately squeezed in.

But something even more despairing happened; she hadn't crawled far before Neva saw the end of the tunnel.

This was also a dead end!

Haha, to be given hope only to find despair in the end, there was nothing more unbearable for a Worm.

The hissing sound of Worms came from behind. Neva turned her head and saw a massive Worm head slowly approaching her.

How was she found so quickly!

Neva was both surprised and aggrieved.

Ever since she was born into this world, she had been constantly running and hiding, and all she wanted was to survive in this world.

But even such a simple wish had now become a delusion.

Calm down, calm down!

Things had not yet reached a truly desperate point.

Neva carefully observed the surrounding environment and then looked at the Worms not far away.

Fortunately, the passage was very narrow, and the Worms couldn't crawl in side by side, avoiding the risk of being surrounded.

This meant that as long as the foremost Worm was killed, other Worms could be prevented from entering, and those blocked Worms would most likely turn on each other.

This was merely the ideal scenario; whether it would develop as she expected remained unknown.

But the blocked passage also cut off other options.

At this moment, the Worm crawling at the very front was already very close to her. Looking at its arrogant demeanor, constantly hissing, Neva opened her mouth.

"I've put up with you for too long!"

The Worm also refused to be outdone and bit towards Neva.

This time, Neva's attack finally gained the upper hand; her sharp teeth pierced through the opponent's head first, while the opponent's mouthparts, which had just pierced Neva's body, stopped weakly.

[Killed Gluttonous Worm, Evolution value +0.3]

There was no skill involved in battles between Worms; after all, everyone used the same mouth to attack.

One only needed to bite faster and more fiercely than the opponent to kill them.

Neva's current data rating had reached 0.7, and her reaction speed already surpassed most newborn Worms, allowing her to relatively easily defeat an ordinary Worm.

Blood at the wound had begun to slowly clot under the effect of [Healing].

The Worm's corpse immediately blocked most of the passage, allowing the Worms behind to only show half their heads. They opened their hideous mouthparts, hissing to express their unwillingness.

As she had expected, those Worms outside, seeing that they couldn't get to her, turned their fangs on their own kind beside them.

Watching the Worms tear at each other, Neva's taut nerves finally relaxed.

But her joy didn't last long. She soon discovered that the Worms' fighting caused the corpse of the foremost Worm to constantly move towards her position, squeezing her dwindling space. Moreover, some Worms still hadn't given up, continuously gnawing at the corpses blocking them, attempting to crawl over.

Recalling the constantly piling Worm mound from before, Neva couldn't help but curse in her heart: "Do these Worms really like to squeeze their own kind into paste?!"

This won't do, she must stop them!

Neva was forced to join the battle.

She killed the Worms attempting to get through, while also eating some of the dead Worm carcasses, trying her best to wiggle forward to create more space for herself.

The red blood plasma accumulated more and more, completely blurring her vision. She didn't know if it was from other Worms or her own.

The instincts of a Gluttonous Worm gradually replaced rational thought, forgetting pain and fear, leaving only two simple, brutal ideas:

Kill them!

Eat them!

...After some time, this small tunnel was filled with the remnants of Worms.

Suddenly, the Worm corpses pressing on the tunnel entrance moved, then were roughly pushed aside.

Neva, covered in blood plasma, crawled out of the tunnel entrance.

Back in the wider tunnel, Neva collapsed on the ground, her eyes filled with numbness.

All that flashed in her mind were bloody scenes of shattered Worms.

But she finally made it out!

Even so, the cost was heavy; she had lost nearly a quarter of her body, and her skull had been bitten, but fortunately, her brain wasn't damaged. Other parts also bore various sizes of wounds.

If it weren't for the [Healing] ability, Neva felt she might have already kicked the bucket from excessive blood loss.

The crystal heart's prompts kept appearing. She didn't know how much Worm flesh she had eaten; just counting those she killed, there were several. Fortunately, she had the "Devour" ability; otherwise, Neva would have been stuffed to death from eating too much, even if she wasn't killed by the Worms.

To the point that now, seeing a Worm made her feel sick!

"Ugh..."

A hot wave surged up, and an indescribable pile of matter appeared on the ground... After she left the tunnel, she swore never to eat Worms again!

Her Evolution value had jumped to 9.2, not far from Evolution.

If such an opportunity to get rich overnight arose again, Neva would definitely turn and run.

Though the harvest was great, the process was truly agonizing. Just thinking about the layers of Worm corpses made Neva shiver with disgust.

Because of this incident, her Soul Strength had even increased by 1 point.

That must be it!
