Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Fear That Breaks the Sky

The courtyard had not yet recovered from Seraphina Lys's descent.

The air still felt heavier than before—like the space itself understood that what was happening was no longer a casual spar.

This was now a clash between two different calibers of talent.

On one side stood Seraphina Lys, the academy's so-called "Celestial Grace Candidate," her presence refined, overwhelming, and precise.

On the other—

Rynelle Aeris, standing quietly, hoodie torn from earlier impact, long black hair exposed and flowing freely behind him, eyes calm in a way that made it difficult to read his intent.

Lunaria Vex watched from the edge of the field with a grin that refused to fade.

"This is going to get interesting," she murmured.

Kael Vire stepped back slightly.

"…Why is VIP fighting him now?"

Elric Morn frowned.

"This exceeds standard training parameters."

Soren Vale adjusted his glasses slowly.

"It has evolved into uncontrolled evaluation."

Rynelle looked at Seraphina.

"…Do we really need to fight?"

Seraphina's gaze did not waver.

"Yes."

A pause.

"Because you are being misjudged."

Rynelle blinked once.

"…That doesn't require combat."

Seraphina raised her hand slightly.

"It does now.

She moved first.

Not explosively like Kael.

But smoothly.

Like a blade being drawn from silence.

Her foot stepped forward and the ground beneath her reacted as if it understood her intent.

A burst of refined mana pressure shot outward.

Rynelle responded instantly.

The space around him shifted.

Wind threads aligned.

Earth threads stabilized.

Metal threads reinforced positional displacement.

He vanished from her direct path.

Seraphina's strike cut through empty air.

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"…Relocation technique."

Rynelle reappeared several meters away.

Still calm.

Still composed.

But Seraphina was already moving again.

Her speed increased.

Each step carried precision rather than raw force.

Her strikes began to anticipate his repositioning.

The courtyard filled with rapid exchanges.

Rynelle kept evading.

Weaver Step activated repeatedly.

Short displacement.

Controlled repositioning.

Avoidance without counterattack.

Kael watched, eyes wide.

"…He's not fighting her."

Elric replied quietly.

"He is prioritizing survival efficiency."

Soren added:

"Adaptation over confrontation."

But Seraphina's expression shifted.

Subtle.

Controlled.

But something behind her eyes sharpened.

Her aura expanded.

The air itself seemed to tighten.

"…Enough."

Mana condensed around her arm.

Her movement changed.

No longer reactive.

Predictive.

She closed the gap faster than before.

Rynelle attempted Weaver Step again—

But this time—

She anticipated it.

Her strike landed.

A clean hit across his guard, forcing him backward.

Then another.

And another.

Kael's eyes widened.

"…She's reading him now."

Elric frowned.

"She is adjusting to spatial displacement patterns."

Soren nodded.

"Counter-adaptation confirmed."

Rynelle staggered slightly.

But steadied himself.

Seraphina stepped in close.

A sharp strike hit his side.

Then a controlled kick forced him back further.

The crowd reacted instantly.

"She's overwhelming him!"

"That's VIP level…"

Rynelle tried to reposition again.

But Seraphina was already inside his timing.

Her palm struck his chest.

He was thrown backward, sliding across the ground.

A silence fell.

Seraphina stood still.

Watching him.

"…You rely too much on evasion."

Rynelle exhaled slowly.

"…I am not strong enough yet."

Seraphina raised her hand.

Mana gathered.

Dense.

Focused.

A finishing strike began forming.

Kael stepped forward.

"Wait—this is getting serious!"

Elric moved slightly.

"This is no longer training."

Soren narrowed his eyes.

"It has become decisive."

---

SYSTEM RESPONSE

Rynelle's system interface flickered.

Then stabilized.

A new notification appeared

[NEW SKILL ACQUIRED]

Fear Domination

Rynelle blinked.

"…Fear?"

The system responded.

> "Emotional pressure amplification. External suppression field."

He slowly stood.

His body was strained.

Mana consumption already high.

But he exhaled.

"…Fear Domination."

The moment he spoke the skill name—

The air shifted.

Not violently.

But deeply.

Like something beneath reality had opened its eyes.

Seraphina paused mid-motion.

Her expression changed.

"…What is this?"

A pressure spread outward.

Invisible.

Heavy.

Not attacking the body.

But the mind.

Her instincts reacted immediately.

Danger.

Not physical.

Existential.

Kael stepped back.

"…I don't like that feeling."

Elric's eyes narrowed.

"That is mental pressure output."

Soren adjusted his glasses.

"High-level suppression effect."

Seraphina tightened her stance.

But for the first time—

A fraction of hesitation appeared

Rynelle raised his head slightly.

"…Fear Domination."

The pressure deepened.

Seraphina's breathing shifted.

Her mana destabilized for a brief moment.

"…No…"

Her confidence cracked slightly.

But she forced herself forward.

"This—doesn't—"

She moved—

But her movement slowed.

Not physically.

But psychologically.

Her instincts screamed danger louder than her mind could override.

Rynelle lifted his hand.

Threads emerged.

Wind.

Earth.

Metal.

But this time—

Stronger.

Denser.

More unstable in their intensity.

"…Weaver Bind."

The threads shot forward.

Seraphina tried to counter—

But hesitation delayed her response by a fraction.

Enough.

The binding wrapped around her.

At first restraint.

Then compression.

Then deeper structural lock.

The threads tightened.

Too tightly.

The pressure increased until even mana flow was disrupted.

A faint crack of energy rippled outward as the bind forced her down.

Seraphina's eyes widened.

"…Stop—"

But the bind held.

Too strong.

Too fast.

Too unstable.

A small trace of blood appeared where the binding pressure concentrated, not from violent intent, but from overwhelming structural force compressing mana pathways.

Her body faltered.

Her knees hit the ground.

Then she collapsed.

Unconscious.

The courtyard froze completely.

No sound.

No movement.

Even Kael could not speak for a moment.

"…She lost?"

Elric stared.

"That was beyond expected output."

Soren added quietly.

"That was suppression-class weaving."

Lunaria Vex from the VIP side had already gone silent.

For the first time since arriving—

Her expression was no longer amused.

It was serious.

Rynelle stood there for a moment.

His breathing uneven.

Mana nearly depleted.

The Fear Domination effect faded.

His legs trembled slightly.

"…I used too much."

Then—

His vision blurred.

The backlash from overusing both Fear Domination and Weaver Bind hit him at once.

He staggered.

Kael rushed forward.

"Hey—!"

But Rynelle had already fallen to one knee.

Then collapsed fully.

Unconscious.

The courtyard was silent again.

Two students lay down on opposite sides of the same field.

One from exhaustion of overwhelming pressure.

One from exhaustion of overwhelming output.

Elric exhaled slowly.

"…Both are unconscious."

Soren nodded.

"Mutual collapse state confirmed."

Kael looked between them.

"…That was supposed to be a spar."

No one answered.

Because no one was entirely sure it was anymore.

Above them, even the VIP observers remained silent.

For the first time since the academy began—

Everyone understood the same thought without speaking it.

The Weaver Class was no longer weak.

And Rynelle Aeris was no longer someone to casually evaluate.
