Chapter 25 - Retaliation

Time felt illusory as bright lights constantly waned and waxed, its growls and screams filling the deep darkness in a profane symphony of horror but, all that was insignificant to the current situation happening within the deep darkness. The pained growls of Star beast Rujir sounded weak, so very weak such that it could barely sound as a whisper of the once powerful growls and screams of the great calamity. Covered and hidden by the deep darkness, the flickering and waning lights waged their eternal war against the pitch that consumed the brilliant lights Star beast Rujir emitted ever so radiantly despite the dying soundless growls that accompanied the brilliant lights.

What a pitiful sight it was.

Undulations of liquid darkness formed and flooded threatening to indulge upon the brilliant lights that genuflected. A gourmet feast it would be should it come to pass but, possessing the immense vitality belonging to a beast of great origins, Star beast Rujir still retained its marvelous life, although just barely.

Delirious, the sweet scent drove him. His already blooming fears turned into strange flowers of interest that released sweet pollen, driving him towards the border lands of adoration.

The strange tongues spoken around the delirious young boy, continued, urgency and interest exchanged between the voices that spoke around him as infatuation continued its grand blooming within him as he lost himself, deeper and deeper within the sweet scent.

 "#@$&"

 Incomprehensible.

His eyes though seeing nothing, roses, lilies, hydrangeas and a whole assortment of strange flowers filled his mind as the field of flowers he saw, imagination wise, gently danced about in the warm summer wind. Confusion and ecstasy he felt running about within his muddled mind but as that took place within him, the argument that had been taking place around him ended as a third of the person's that had engaged in the banter walked out, displeasure warping their expressions as they exited the strange room that housed the delirious young boy. The remaining person's sighed gently as they continued their internal assessment on the boy, a new conversation taking place within the remaining members. Settling outside, the three women that had walked out of the room began talking in their strange tongue, tension and apprehension filling their words as emotions warped their expressions.

High pitched, childish voices approached the adults that communicated with hushed voices. Ignorant of the communication that took place they continued their game of tag running about carelessly around the tense adults, giggling and screaming till they were chased away but the joy expounded by the children brought smiles towards the adults as they ran about laughing freely running and catching each other.

Doused in love, his being had begun to sweat as the sweet scent that wafted about freely across his olfactory senses, drugged him in the strange emotion. The strange tongues that had stayed continued talking, different responses arguing with the assessment done by the owner of the sweet scent.

Reaching an agreement, the bickering that had continued ended abruptly as the owner of the arm withdraw it from his body forcing the dazed boy to come back to reality and once again, he saw nothing but darkness. Leaving the confused boy, the voices all exited the room silently leaving the confused boy all but to himself once more or rather as it had always been.

Seeing nothing but darkness, a frown twisted his ruddy features as he spoke once more, ignorant of the fact that the person's who were assessing him had quietly left the room.

"Where am I?!"

The apparent shock that had been lost resulted in a confusion lacing his words as he turned to gaze around the room he was in... darkness, darkness, darkness. That was all he saw and it made him uncomfortable, reaching out to grab the area around his eyes, he thought maybe a blindfold had been put around there.

It seemed strange reaching out to caress one's face but yet he did it, hoping to uncover the secret to his lack of sight. Feeling the area around his eyes he knew, rather, he had a premonition of sorts but he didn't want to confirm it.

Dropping his left hand to the side, he felt the soft fabric, rubbing his hands through it his expression remained solemn. Hearing none of the strange talk, he continued his steady action no thought running through his mind as the silence encroached around his space. Gently caressing the soft fabric, his expression remained staid till he heard soft footsteps. He turned his head towards the source, maintaining his stoic expression.

Seeing no one, his premonitions were confirmed, his arms slightly trembled as his eyelids quickly quivered... but, he maintained his stoic expression silently looking towards the source of the footsteps.

"#@$!"

Hearing the strange language, he wanted to cry out, his heart thunderstruck but... he maintained his staid expression quietly listening to the words spoken by the owner of the voice.

The owner of the voice had noticed that the person they were speaking to, paid little to no attention to them prompting them to keep quiet. They watched quietly as the young boy continued looking towards them... turning around to leave, the owner of the strange language left quietly, leaving the young boy once again to his lonesome.

Hearing no one, he continued rubbing his hands across the soft fabric, his mind empty as it reflected through his expression.

In a large meeting room, several teachers bickered about as they each voiced their opinions against and those in favor of the issue that had sparked this great debate.

"I'm against this, why should we send the first years outside?! Their techniques have barely been used since they arrived in here, their focal points are still too underdeveloped. So why send them out, how can we send kids into those places?!"

A bald-headed old man reasoned dangerously, anger warping and infecting his tone.

"I hear you Uligar, I hear you but, what can we do? The war in the west in changing, the Telemenphen King killed Star beast Rujir during their confrontation, strange events have been occurring within the school, sigh. With all this going on, what can we not do but send the students forward?"

A grey haired elder said exasperatedly, his expression filled with defeat.

"You old heads, that's why the school is losing towards the other schools, all caution no action. I'm with Ignhir on this one, sure Uliger has a point after all these kids barely survived the entrance exam but now the situation has changed so let's send the kids forward, sure its ahead of time but what can we do, the times are changing such that even the Telemenphen King had to step in to deal with the calamity beast Rujir. What can we not do but act ahead of time?"

A genial smile that had faded graced the fairly old man whose crown had faded green hair.

"Bastards! Don't you remember the incident that happened 15 years ago, it was because of this very same decision that lead to the death of many, so please, let us not take this decision, we can't let the death of the previous generation be null and void!!!"

Uliger spoke angrily, spit flying out of his mouth as he ended his comment.

The whole room housing over 50 lecturers was set ablaze by the comment made by the bald headed Uliger.

"Like I said, its not that we didn't forget what happened 15 years ago but the times have changed, the seasons of war as prophesied by "him" are upon us. Hence to deal or even be able to weather these storms, we must act appropriately."

"You slimy bastard, I knew you'd say that after all it was you who instigated this damn meeting but my reasonings still stand, we must not send those children towards that place, too many students have died. So what if the school has dropped in the rankings, so what if the children within this school don't use their techniques, at least we're protecting them by giving them time to fully mature."

The already hot meeting turned even hotter as the comments made by Uliger struck their weak points. They had the pride of the great academia Rivaegerlon to protect but they also had the great duty to nurture the next great beings that were expected of this school. What a conundrum they had before them.

"Uliger, never call me what you called me.."

The grey haired elder spoke as a certain fire ignited deep within his aged silver eyes

"Ignhir, you slimy bastard, I know what you want and you aren't going to get it.""

"THAT'S RIGHT ULIGER TELL THE BASTARD!!!"

The sharp cry of a crimson haired man added fuel into the already heated argument taking place within the meeting hall, Uliger's fuming expression faced the grinning Ignhir as the altercation taking place threatened to get out of hand.

"Lecturers! Please let's all cooldown and discuss this like the adults we are.."

The cool voice of the dean shut the stuttering flames of discontent that burned throughout the room. His calm expression brought about a sense of ease as he spoke once more.

"I have listened to each of your opinions though some were lacking and I have made a decision. This meeting shall be continued again at a later date but, before the dismissal of this gathering, Miss Velarion has something to say, right?"

The issue that had raged within the meeting room for so long having ended so abruptly left Uliger and the rest of the lecturers shocked and displeased, Ignhir's grin having broken down and the faded green haired elder sighing silently but the end statement made by the dean garnered the attention of many as their gazes landed on the silently seated Velarion.

Feeling the presence of many gazes, Velarion opened her crimson eyes to look upon the spectacled middle aged man that brought about this current situation... then spoke quietly.

"I allowed the students of the nobility class to exercise their techniques."

"Wha-"

"ah?!"

 "y-you did, what?!..."

Ignhir's shocked expression paled as the words Velarion had spoken continued to resound deep into his mind.

"Velarion... what did you do?!"

Uliger muttered gently as he fell back into his seat, his expression ashen as his eyes wide-open, quivered about. An evident terror claiming his being.

This was the same expression shared by all the lecturers, shock. Velarion, ignorant of their expressions continued as she had shut her eyes.

"Those kids are more than ready to tackle that 'place'."

The dean, a spectacled middle aged man with soft features spoke, his expression void of any emotion.

"Its not what you didn't do, its about where you did it.."

"Oooh, you mean 'that' don't worry about it, I had added aura within the classroom before we began the experiment so nothing changed within the barrier."

As cold water brought during a hot day, relief washed through all their beings as some had let go of the white table they had unknowingly grasped in sudden shock, the respite being too great to contain with simple sighs.

"This meeting is adjourned."

The dean's cool voice echoed through the hall as he stood up, leaving the muddled lecturers alone.
