Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Rebirth

The cold wind whistled past Ryan's ears as he felt himself falling into an endless abyss.

He recalled his bizarre adventure—one that had lasted only eight short chapters—as the scene before his eyes gradually faded.

"I wonder if the bartender will be disappointed... I still owe you for that 'Bloody Love.' Leon should have met Auntie Wong by now, right? I wonder if he'll still remember me after meeting the woman who changed his entire life. And Claire… that strong, persistent woman I haven't even met yet. Also, little Sherry… I'm not a lolicon, but she must be adorable, right…"

A strange surge coursed through Ryan's veins. His blood rushed violently, causing veins across his body to bulge grotesquely.

Overwhelmed by intense pain, Ryan lost consciousness mid-fall, his thoughts fading into darkness.

---

Below the mechanical room lay the sewer system of Raccoon City.

Maintenance workers were often too lazy to dispose of trash properly, so they would simply throw it down from above.

And so, Ryan's bizarre adventure did not end.

Fortunately—or perhaps unfortunately—both he and William landed in a pile of accumulated garbage.

William, however, retained consciousness after the fall.

After staggering to his feet, he ran off into the darkness, leaving Ryan behind.

Ryan's condition was far worse.

Despite landing on trash, he suffered multiple comminuted fractures.

The only mercy was that he had already passed out, sparing him the agony.

Even so, his situation was grim. Even if he woke up, escape seemed impossible.

Inside his body, fragments of William's flesh he had swallowed were circulating silently, waiting for the moment to act.

---

Compared to Ryan's miserable state, Leon's side of the story was far more eventful.

After the fall, Leon picked up the badge Ryan had thrown to him and carefully placed it inside his bulletproof vest.

"Ryan… I'll survive. I'll carry your share too."

He steadied himself, climbed back to the second floor, crossed the suspension bridge, and emerged through a manhole into the underground parking lot of the Raccoon City Police Station.

There, he met Ada Wong—who claimed to be an FBI agent.

Meeting her would change his life forever.

---

In the jail area, Leon encountered a reporter named Ben.

But after only a brief conversation, a massive hand burst through the wall and crushed Ben's head instantly.

To retrieve the parking keycard, Leon returned to the police station to search for missing circuit board parts.

During this process, he encountered the Tyrant—the same monster responsible for Ben's death.

Evading the Tyrant while searching took a significant amount of time.

When Leon finally returned to the parking lot, he was once again caught by the Tyrant.

At that critical moment, Ada appeared and saved him.

---

After escaping, Leon decided to follow Ada to uncover the truth behind the Raccoon City incident.

Together, they entered the sewers.

There, Leon was chased by a massive virus-mutated crocodile.

Soon after, he encountered William Birkin and took a bullet for Ada, losing consciousness.

When he awoke, only Ada's coat remained.

She was gone.

Determined to find her, Leon began exploring the sewers alone.

---

Meanwhile, Ryan's body was undergoing drastic changes.

The T-virus had spread through the sewers via infected rats, contaminating the wastewater.

Ryan's lower body had been submerged in it.

The virus seeped into his wounds, reacting with the G-Virus inside him.

This was no ordinary interaction.

Even though William had once called the T-virus a "waste product," it still triggered an unexpected reaction when combined with the G-Virus.

---

Ryan slowly opened his eyes.

He stared blankly at his surroundings.

Then, he raised his hands.

"…I'm not dead? And… no mutation?"

He stood up, leaning against the trash heap.

No pain.

None at all.

He touched his face.

Nothing had changed.

Instead, his body felt… powerful.

Stronger than ever.

"Isn't the G-Virus supposed to require blood relation? Don't tell me William and I are long-lost brothers…?"

After thinking it over and finding no answer, Ryan gave up trying to understand.

Being alive was enough.

---

His mind felt sharper.

His senses—vision and hearing—had become incredibly acute.

Only one thing bothered him:

A faint but persistent feeling of being watched.

---

After calming himself, Ryan looked down at his filthy police uniform and frowned.

"Yeah… doubt there's a dry cleaner down here."

He checked his gear.

Everything was gone.

The dagger was broken. The pistol had likely been lost during the fall.

Even if he found it, it probably wouldn't work after being submerged.

---

Eventually, after getting lost multiple times, Ryan stumbled upon a familiar location.

A corpse wearing black tactical armor lay nearby.

"Umbrella's rapid response team…"

Ryan crouched beside the body, examining it.

Then smirked.

"Helmet's broken… but the rest is usable."

---

Not long after, Ryan had changed into the armor.

(He absolutely refused to touch the underwear. Some lines shouldn't be crossed.)

He also took the MP5, checked the ammo—three magazines, about ninety rounds—plus a tactical knife and two grenades.

"Nice upgrade."

---

In a narrow passage, a zombie wandered aimlessly.

It noticed Ryan and began approaching.

Ryan grinned.

"Oh? You're walking toward me? Even an ant knows to avoid danger."

He fired a shot at its leg.

The impact forced the zombie to its knees.

Ryan dashed forward—

—and delivered a powerful roundhouse kick.

The zombie flew backward, its skull partially crushed.

But not destroyed.

Ryan frowned.

"…This feels like Chris-level strength from RE5."

Then he sighed.

Why overthink it?

Being alive was already a miracle.

---

What Ryan didn't know…

Was that only a small portion of the fused virus had been used to heal him.

The remaining ninety percent…

Was still dormant inside his body.

Waiting.
