Cherreads

Chapter 54 - 054 Brazen

Hugo had seen those big-budget, big-production movie premieres on TV. At the venue, the appearance of every star would trigger thunderous cheers; watching such scenes was truly spectacular. But today, when Hugo walked on the red carpet himself, there were no cheers at all, only low murmurs—it felt more like the atmosphere of a college year-end party, leaving Hugo feeling both disappointed and amused. However, thinking that this wasn't his own movie premiere, Hugo's mood immediately lightened significantly.Since no one was constantly trying to stop Hugo, and given his lack of experience, he walked down the red carpet and reached the end in no time. Hugo was left wondering why it usually took others at least ten minutes to walk the red carpet, while he had finished in just a minute. What was going on?"Hugo, Hugo." A voice came from the side. Hugo turned his head and saw a middle-aged man holding a microphone with a camera hanging around his neck; this was clearly a reporter.Seeing Hugo turn his head, the reporter immediately stepped forward, gently guiding Hugo to the side for an interview, clearing the red carpet space again. "Hugo, I'm James Rutt, a reporter for US Weekly. Why are you attending the premiere of 'the last analysis' today?""I previously worked with Paul on 'dead poets society', and since he is the producer of this film, I thought it would be an honor to come and show my support." Hugo spoke the truth, believing that even if he hadn't said it, the reporter could have found the information anyway.James nodded slightly and then complimented, "Your outfit today is outstanding. I expect the whole venue will remember this moment vividly.""Haha, I don't think Richard Gere would be happy to hear that." Hugo wasn't so easily fooled; these reporters were just joking, and besides, compliments didn't cost anything."I'm serious. I'm afraid tomorrow's coverage of the premiere will definitely have a spot for you." James explained. Although the reporting on male Actors' attire was far less than that of female Actors, male Actors who truly knew how to project their charm possessed even greater influence than female Actors. However, James' words didn't really sway Hugo, as he didn't understand the rules of Hollywood news reporting well and didn't know how much of what James said was actually true."This is your first public appearance since the Golden Raspberry Awards, right?" James didn't wait for Hugo's response, continuing his question, "How does it feel?"Hugo looked around and shrugged lightly, "Uh, better than I imagined. At least I wasn't expecting such a big setup; this is much grander than the Golden Raspberry Awards." The quip made James burst into laughter."And what are your thoughts on today's movie?" James asked one final routine question.Hugo looked at the still noisy scene around him and said with a smile, "I believe in Paul's vision; it was like that before, and it is still like that now."There was a hidden meaning in Hugo's words. By saying he believed in Paul's vision, he was actually implying that Paul giving him a chance in 'dead poets society' was a wise choice. Quietly and indirectly, Hugo had managed to praise himself. James didn't catch it at first, but when he realized it later, he only saw Hugo's back and couldn't help but smile helplessly.By this point, Hugo's task of attending the premiere was basically complete. As for how much exposure it would yield, that remained to be seen; he didn't know how much power this Givenchy outfit had or if it was worth it.After leaving the red carpet, Hugo entered the Fox Theater. He took the invitation out of his inner pocket and showed it to the security guard at the door, finally gaining eligibility to enter the inner venue. By now, quite a few people had gathered inside, sitting scattered in their seats. Among them were many reporters; their main job was to write film reviews, though of course, taking photos and conducting interviews inside the venue were also their responsibilities.Hugo stood in place for a moment, looking around, and did not go to his seat immediately. Hugo had his own little plan; he knew very few people now, and if he didn't know the friends his predecessor had known, and he just stared blankly as they passed by, that would be embarrassing. So, he simply stood by the door. If someone wanted to say hello, they would naturally come up to him, and he would take things as they came, keeping the situation within an acceptable range. However, the lead of the day was clearly not Hugo, so naturally, no one was coming specifically for him. Hugo stood there for a moment, and finding that no one approached, he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief before finding a seat on the edge of the fourth row and sitting down. After Hugo sat down, the theater seats were gradually filled. Before long, he saw Paul arrive at the venue. He took the initiative to go up and greet him, and the two exchanged brief pleasantries before Hugo returned to his seat. Once the main cast and crew began to enter, Hugo carefully scrutinized them one by one, attempting to awaken the memories in his brain, but unfortunately, there were too many people, and seeing everyone clearly wasn't that easy.Hugo's gaze was shifting when he saw a mesmerizing figure walk into the theater. A tall stature, a unique aura—she effortlessly drew all the attention in the venue. It was none other than Uma, who also appeared in 'the last analysis'.At this time, Uma was only twenty-two years old. Her invincible youthful vitality overflowed in every gesture, yet her charm—gentle on the outside but strong on the inside, and full of allure—was already radiating from her movements. Even if a bit green, it was still a lethal weapon, and that flirtatious smile at the corner of her mouth only added to her overall allure.Hugo was still marveling to himself; Uma was indeed a beauty. Her graceful steps were like a snake approaching Eve, full of infinite danger, but the power of her allure was not to be underestimated. The only pity was that today, Uma had pulled all her hair back, revealing a smooth, clean forehead; if she had let her long hair down, the beauty in that disarray would surely have been even more stunning.Just as Hugo was marveling, he suddenly realized that Uma's gaze had met his, and she was walking step by step toward his seat. This left Hugo somewhat confused. He instinctively looked to both sides but didn't see any other artists. Could it be that Uma was greeting him? But there was no memory of this in Hugo's brain, and Hugo didn't know how to interact with Uma.Sure enough, in the gap of his thoughts, Uma's steps had already brought her to Hugo's front. A mischievous smile appeared on her face, "Long time no see!"Hugo was certain that Uma was speaking to him. Just a moment ago, he had been testing if there was anyone at the scene who knew his predecessor, but unfortunately, he hadn't met any. Now, however, Uma had come straight to him. Hugo couldn't figure out the situation because, in his memory, he and Uma had never worked together. But... Hugo suddenly remembered the way Joseph looked when he mentioned Uma, hesitating as if he had more to say. Could there be a secret between Uma and Hugo that he hadn't remembered? But Uma was already in front of Hugo, leaving no room for him to have more thoughts. So, Hugo stood up, looked at the Uma before him, and smiled, "Long time no see. How have you been lately?""Everything is great." Uma took another half-step forward, standing directly in front of Hugo. "How about you? Your life lately seems very exciting."Uma and Hugo were chatting there, and the reporters nearby keenly sensed something was off. They couldn't help but shift their attention over, and some were even impatient to record this scene with their cameras first. This was something Hugo hadn't expected."Work, just work. Aside from that, there's nothing else." Hugo said honestly. But no sooner had he finished speaking than Hugo instinctively wanted to step back, because Uma had leaned directly toward his ear, as if she had a secret to tell. This action gave Hugo a bit of a scare, but there was a chair right behind him, so Hugo had nowhere to retreat. That increasingly magnified face allowed Hugo to clearly see the mysterious aura between Uma's brows."Why did you suddenly stop calling me? This isn't like you. Are you planning to keep me in suspense? Such old-fashioned courtship methods seem quite outdated." Uma's words immediately made Hugo's brain race. Had they been in contact before? Why did it sound like his predecessor had once pursued Uma?But Hugo's brain couldn't function effectively because Uma's warm breath was blowing against his ear like an orchid, and combined with the rich perfume scent rushing toward him, it made Hugo somewhat dizzy. Not to mention the slightly warm air inside the theater, which caused Hugo's heart rate to rise in an instant, and his thoughts naturally became a bit delayed."Heh, I will absolutely not admit that I've been a bit curious lately about what's going on with you." Although Uma was still whispering in Hugo's ear, Hugo could clearly feel the corner of Uma's mouth curling slightly to one side, with a mischievous and playful glint flickering in her eyes. "Although you've been appearing in the media more and more frequently lately..." The second half of the sentence seemed to imply "but the contact has been getting less and less."Then Uma pushed back a small half-step, leaving Hugo's ear, but her eyes cast a scorching gaze directly at Hugo. Uma's pair of azure blue eyes rippled slightly, causing Hugo to be dazed for a moment. In that moment of daze, Hugo felt Uma's breath rapidly approaching him. Although Hugo instinctively stepped back—he still hadn't figured out the relationship between his predecessor and Uma—his reaction speed was a bit slow. Uma moved in quickly, and then Hugo felt a warm and soft sensation on his lips: these were the lips of Uma Thurman. The two of them had actually kissed just like that. In an instant, the inside of the theater became lively, and the reporters all opened their cameras to record this classic moment. As for Hugo?Hugo only felt those soft yet sharp-feeling lips exploring his own. He hadn't even had time to react, but his accelerated heartbeat and rapid breathing caused the surrounding ambiguous atmosphere to heat up rapidly. The two of them had actually started kissing so brazenly.
