The alarm bell echoed across Gurukul Tapovan.
Its deep sound broke the silence of the night.
Students rushed out of their huts, holding small oil lamps. Some looked frightened. Others did not understand what was happening.
Acharya Vedant raised his hand.
"Everyone, stay calm!"
"Senior students, protect the younger ones."
"Do not leave the gurukul alone."
His calm voice brought order to the confusion.
The students quickly gathered in the central courtyard.
Meanwhile, Rishi Anand turned towards the eastern wall.
"The real danger is there."
Without waiting another moment, he ran.
Tez followed him.
"So did Naman and Veer.
As they reached the eastern side, three black-cloaked men had already climbed over the wall.
Their faces were hidden.
Each carried a short sword.
One of them whispered,
"Find the boy."
The second replied,
"The pouch must not leave this place."
Before they could move farther, Rishi Anand stepped into their path.
He carried nothing except a long wooden staff.
The leader laughed.
"An old monk thinks he can stop us?"
Rishi Anand smiled gently.
"I don't wish to fight."
The man raised his sword.
"Then step aside."
"I cannot."
Without another warning, the attacker rushed forward.
His sword flashed through the moonlight.
Rishi Anand moved only a single step.
His staff turned once.
Thak!
The sword flew from the attacker's hand and landed several feet away.
The students watched in amazement.
The old sage had not attacked with anger.
He had simply defended himself with perfect control.
The other two intruders looked at each other.
"This old man is dangerous."
At the same time, another shadow slipped quietly behind the huts.
Unlike the others, he carried no weapon.
His only task was to steal the leather pouch.
He had carefully watched Tez throughout the evening.
He knew exactly where the boy was.
Keeping close to the shadows, he slowly moved towards him.
Tez's attention remained fixed on the fight.
He had never seen anyone move like Rishi Anand.
The sage seemed calm with every step.
Every movement was simple.
Every strike was precise.
No energy was wasted.
Veer whispered,
"He's incredible."
Naman nodded.
"I've never seen anything like this."
Just then, Tez felt someone brush past him.
Before he could turn...
A hand grabbed the leather pouch beneath his clothes.
The stranger pulled hard.
The cord around Tez's waist tightened painfully.
Instinct took over.
Remembering Acharya Vedant's lesson, Tez did not panic.
Instead of pulling back with force, he stepped forward.
The sudden movement surprised the thief.
The man lost his balance.
Tez pushed him with both hands.
The stranger stumbled and fell onto the ground.
"The pouch!" Tez shouted.
"He's after the pouch!"
Every eye turned towards them.
The thief quickly jumped to his feet and drew a small dagger.
For a moment, he looked directly at Tez.
"You should have died with your village," he said coldly.
Those words filled Tez with anger.
Images of Suryanagari flashed before his eyes.
His father.
His mother.
Mira.
His fists tightened.
He wanted to attack.
Then he remembered Acharya Vedant's words.
"A true warrior is the one who knows when not to fight."
Instead of rushing forward, Tez stepped back and gave a loud warning.
"Everyone, stay away! He has a dagger!"
Rishi Anand glanced towards Tez.
A proud smile appeared on his face.
The boy had chosen wisdom over anger.
Seeing that his plan had failed, the leader whistled loudly.
It was a signal.
The remaining intruders immediately began to retreat.
One threw a small clay ball onto the ground.
It burst with a loud crack.
Thick grey smoke covered the courtyard.
Students coughed and covered their faces.
"Don't move!" Acharya Vedant called.
"It's only smoke."
"Stay together."
When the smoke slowly cleared...
The attackers were gone.
Only footprints remained in the soft earth.
The gurukul became quiet once again.
Senior students checked every hut.
Nothing had been stolen.
No student was seriously injured.
Still, everyone understood one thing.
The enemy had found them.
Later that night, Acharya Vedant, Rishi Anand, and Tez sat beneath the old peepal tree.
A small oil lamp burned between them.
For a long time, no one spoke.
Finally, Acharya Vedant broke the silence.
"They did not come to harm the gurukul."
"They came for you."
Tez nodded slowly.
"I know."
"And for the leather pouch."
Tez placed his hand over it.
"I still don't understand why."
Rishi Anand looked into the flame of the lamp.
"Many years ago, there were people who protected wisdom instead of gold."
"They believed that knowledge could shape kingdoms."
"But another group wanted power instead of wisdom."
"They believed fear was stronger than truth."
Tez listened carefully.
"Are those men part of that group?"
"Yes."
"They call themselves the Order of the Black Eclipse."
"Their goal is simple."
"They want every secret of the ancient Guardians of the Eternal Flame."
"And they believe your leather pouch will lead them to it."
Tez looked down.
"So people died because of this pouch."
Rishi Anand answered gently,
"No."
"They died because evil men chose greed over humanity."
"Never blame yourself for another person's cruelty."
Those words eased a weight that Tez had carried since the night Suryanagari burned.
Just before dawn, Acharya Vedant made an important decision.
"It is no longer safe for Tez to remain here without training."
He turned to Rishi Anand.
"His lessons must begin immediately."
The sage nodded.
"From tomorrow..."
"...he will rise before every other student."
"He will learn not only to protect himself..."
"...but to protect others."
Tez folded his hands respectfully.
"I am ready to learn."
Rishi Anand smiled.
"No, my son."
"You are ready to begin."
Far away, inside the dark cave, the cloaked leader listened as the wounded intruders reported their failure.
"The boy still has the pouch."
"And the old monk?"
"He is stronger than we expected."
The leader slowly walked towards an ancient stone chest.
He placed his hand upon its lid.
"If strength cannot take the pouch..."
"...then we shall use another path."
He turned towards his followers.
"Prepare the Raven."
One of the men looked shocked.
"Master... are you sure?"
The leader's eyes were cold.
"The time for watching is over."
"The next move will change everything."
The torches flickered as a gust of wind swept through the cave.
Far away, the first rays of sunlight touched the roofs of Gurukul Tapovan.
A new day had begun.
But neither Tez nor his teachers knew that an even greater danger was already on its way.
