The villa felt quieter again.
But this time, the silence didn't press on him the same way.
Shen Yichen stood near Lin Yue out of habit—but habit no longer felt like urgency.
Lu Han noticed it immediately.
"You're calmer today," he said carefully.
Shen Yichen didn't deny it.
"I noticed something," he replied.
Lin Yue looked at him.
"What now?" she asked softly.
Shen Yichen's gaze stayed on her.
"I didn't think about losing you first," he said.
Silence.
That sentence landed differently.
Not dramatic.
Just… unfamiliar.
Lu Han stepped forward slightly.
"And what did you think about first?" he asked.
Shen Yichen paused.
"…That you were still here."
Lin Yue's expression softened slightly.
"That sounds normal," she said gently.
Shen Yichen shook his head once.
"It doesn't feel normal to me."
A pause.
"It feels late."
Silence.
That word—*late*—conflicted with everything before.
Lin Yue frowned slightly.
"Late for what?"
Shen Yichen didn't answer immediately.
Then quietly:
"For fear."
Silence.
Lu Han exhaled slowly.
"So your fear is no longer automatic," he said.
Shen Yichen nodded once.
"It arrives after."
A pause.
"And sometimes I forget it for a moment."
Silence.
That was new.
Not absence of fear.
But interruption.
Lin Yue stepped slightly closer.
Shen Yichen noticed—but didn't react immediately.
A beat passed.
Then another.
Lin Yue spoke softly.
"You're experiencing me before your fear catches up."
Shen Yichen looked at her for a long moment.
"Yes," he said quietly.
A pause.
"And it feels unstable."
Lu Han stepped forward.
"Because your system is changing," he said.
Shen Yichen looked at him.
"I don't like it," he admitted.
"But it's happening anyway."
Silence.
Lin Yue tilted her head slightly.
"What do you feel in that moment before fear arrives?" she asked.
Shen Yichen hesitated.
"…Nothing breaking," he said.
A pause.
"And that confuses me."
Silence.
That was the most important admission yet.
Because for the first time—
calm didn't equal danger in his mind.
It simply felt unfamiliar.
Lu Han's tone softened.
"You're separating experience from trauma response," he said.
Shen Yichen nodded slowly.
"I think so."
A pause.
"But I still expect it to come back."
Lin Yue looked at him gently.
"Maybe it doesn't have to come first anymore," she said.
Shen Yichen didn't answer immediately.
Then quietly:
"I don't know how to live in that version yet."
Silence.
Lu Han exhaled.
"That's okay," he said.
Shen Yichen finally looked at him fully.
"It doesn't feel okay," he said.
A pause.
"It feels like I'm forgetting something important."
Lin Yue stepped slightly closer again.
Shen Yichen noticed—but the reaction didn't spike.
It arrived late.
Weaker again.
Lin Yue spoke softly.
"You're not forgetting me," she said.
Shen Yichen looked at her.
"I know," he said.
A pause.
"But I'm starting to forget the feeling that you might disappear."
Silence.
That should have terrified him before.
But now—
it only left him uncertain.
And uncertainty, for the first time,
didn't immediately turn into panic.
It just stayed there.
Waiting.
