Chapter 33 - Don’t Create Space Where I Can’t Reach You

The tension in the villa had changed shape again.

It wasn't loud anymore.

It was precise.

Like Shen Yichen had started measuring everything in distance instead of words.

He stood near Lin Yue without hesitation now.

Closer than before.

Always correcting invisible gaps.

Lu Han noticed it too.

"You're tracking her like a constant variable," he said quietly.

Shen Yichen didn't look at him.

"I'm tracking what keeps me stable," he replied.

Lin Yue exhaled softly.

"You're treating stability like it depends entirely on where I stand," she said.

Shen Yichen finally looked at her.

"Yes."

No hesitation.

No softening.

Just agreement.

Lu Han stepped forward slightly.

"That's not stability," he said.

"That's dependency disguised as structure."

Shen Yichen turned toward him slowly.

"And what do you call losing someone twice?" he asked quietly.

Silence.

No answer came.

Because neither definition helped.

Lin Yue studied him carefully.

"You're reacting to proximity like it's danger," she said softly.

Shen Yichen didn't deny it.

"It is," he said.

A pause.

"Anything that creates space creates risk."

Lin Yue frowned slightly.

"That's not how relationships work."

Shen Yichen nodded once.

"I know."

A pause.

"But that's how my mind works now."

Silence.

Lu Han's voice tightened.

"You're rebuilding reality around fear."

Shen Yichen finally looked at him fully.

"No," he said quietly.

"I'm rebuilding it around what I can't lose again."

Lin Yue stepped slightly closer.

Shen Yichen noticed instantly.

His attention locked onto her movement.

Lin Yue spoke softly.

"You don't even let me move freely anymore without interpreting it."

Shen Yichen didn't hesitate.

"I interpret everything related to you," he said.

A pause.

"Because I can't afford not to."

Silence.

Lin Yue looked at him carefully.

"You're turning every interaction into a potential threat assessment."

Shen Yichen nodded once.

"Yes."

Simple.

Final.

"And I'm not stopping."

Lu Han stepped forward again.

"This is how isolation starts," he said firmly.

Shen Yichen finally turned toward him fully.

"And what do you call losing her again?" he asked quietly.

A pause.

"An acceptable risk?"

No answer came.

Because there wasn't one.

Shen Yichen turned back to Lin Yue.

Their distance was minimal again.

His voice softened slightly.

"Don't create space where I can't reach you," he said quietly.

A pause.

"Because my mind fills it with loss immediately."

Silence settled again.

And Lin Yue finally understood the real structure forming here.

He wasn't just afraid of losing her.

He was afraid of *space itself* becoming the beginning of losing her.

So he was trying to eliminate space entirely.

Not emotionally.

Physically.

Moment by moment.

Until nothing in between could ever become absence again.
