Even If the Morning Takes Your Scent
There are people who enter your life so quietly that you don’t notice the moment they begin to matter.
In Class 9B, there is a "Golden Rule": never date a classmate. It’s a boundary Steph built to keep the world at a distance, and for a long time, I was content to stay on my side of the line. We were just accidental nearness—shared glances in the festive room, saved seats in the back of the class, and the quiet rhythm of a train ride to a city I’d never seen.
But some things never ask to be named before they grow.
Behind the ancient walls of Brașov and under the heavy silence of the mountain pines, the lines began to blur. I found myself caught in the space between what we were and what we could never be. I’ve learned that there are different kinds of closeness: the kind you share openly, and the kind that exists only because no one else knows about it. Ours belonged to the second.
Now, I’m left holding onto the scent of a borrowed hoodie and the memory of a ghost-hug at my gate, wondering if I’m just a secret he’s keeping or the person he’s actually afraid to lose.
I know the sun is coming up. I know the "rule" is waiting for us back in the hallway. But for one night in the altitude, I let myself believe that parallel lines could finally touch.
I’m not sure if this is a story about love. But it’s the moment I realized I was already too far in.
