Chapter 82 - Orion and Nephthys

"Oh, so it worked!"

"I suppose you can say that," I replied indifferently. "However, it's only temporary; he'll awaken after a while."

"Ah," Nephthys said, "What went wrong? I am sure that my calculations were precise. He should have actually been completely eradicated."

"You are smart, but you're an idiot," I said.

"Huh?"

"You are quite smart when compared to an average person, but you can't compare to Set. In fact, that's what went wrong, you underestimated Set, and also, you overestimated your own abilities, which makes you an idiot."

"Why are you so cold towards me?" she asked with a tinge of doubt. "What have I done to deserve such treatment from you?"

She opened her mouth, caught off guard by the response. "That's not what I meant."

"I know what you meant. As I said before, I have no reason to be friendly towards you. I know everything you did in your life, well, excluding the times that include me in it, like right now, and everything that you will do. Honestly, your actions would make my current attitude towards you within reason," I explained.

Nephthys was fuming as she asked, "What actions?!"

"Oh, do you want me to make a list? Very well, let's start with how you treat Set, who is your husband and your brother, which is extremely disgusting. Second-"

"Set isn't my brother," she interrupted.

"What does that mean?" I asked, frowning, because I could not understand what she meant.

Nephthys looked at me with a complicated expression that contained pity. She sighed but refrained from answering.

I stared at her silently and said, "How do you explain the existence of Anubis?"

Her expression changed drastically, and she said quickly, "How do you know that? Please, don't tell him! I beg of you!"

"Set has access to my memories. What makes you think that he doesn't already know about your treachery with Osiris?"

She didn't reply, keeping her head lowered from shame and embarrassment. I sighed and changed the subject, "Why did you wake me?"

"I wanted to kill Set once and for all. And…I was curious about you," she replied.

"Fair enough. I want to wake up at some point in time to confirm some things. Can you make it possible?"

Her face revealed a thoughtful expression, then she said after a moment of silence, "I can if I am beside you."

I simply shook my head.

"Why not? Is my presence that unbearable to you?"

"That's not it."

"Then what's the reason?"

"He'll kill you after he regains control of my body. Actually, that's what he returned here to do. He planned to live with you for a few more years, but..." I didn't continue; the answer is obvious. He will kill her, not in a few more years, he has changed his mind regarding his original plan; Nephthys has angered him, that's the one and only reason.

"I understand," she said, closing her eyes for quite some time. Finally, she opened them again and blew on my face.

"What was that?" I asked, my guard instantly rising alongside my energy.

"You wanted to wake up without my help at those times you mentioned, well, here you go," she explained. "This will give you the opportunity to wake up for two or three times, that's the best I can do. When the time comes to use these opportunities, just think about regaining control, and you'll naturally do."

I nodded while calming my energy. I didn't express my thanks because this was a trade to begin with. Nephthys helped me with the waking up problems, and I told her about Set's intentions to kill her. This would allow her to escape, although I didn't tell her that he might kill her later on. She could sense that, so there's no need to say it.

"Go," I suddenly said after some time of silence. Set was about to wake up. "Osiris's tomb will land on the shores of Byblos, Phoenicia."

Her eyes sparkled as she nodded and said, "Thank you."

With that, two wings appeared on her back, and Nephthys left.

I looked at her disappearing figure and closed my eyes.
