Chapter 48 - Enchanter License Exam (1)

After learning that his license would be completed in short order and that the Head Guildmaster would hold it until after his mock duel, Luca roused his dragon companion, who yawned and stretched like a cat, and the pair made their way out of the Alchemist Exam room. This time, due to the distance being much farther than from the first exam room to the second or third, as the Enchanter Exam room was on the other end of the building, the pair were often questioned and admired by employees and the occasional visitors. The young Dragonborn had left his unique appearance visible, as he felt comfortable doing so in the guild due to its strict policies, thus causing many questions to be pitched to him. The one he was most familiar with at this point was the request for a hug, mostly from the female employees, due to his one-of-a-kind look adding a shiny finish to his already cute appearance. Meanwhile, Arcturus was spoiled by several employees, who gave him some things to munch on, as one would for a wary pet, leading to several instances of Luca having to drag him away during his attempts to receive more. Luca did not fear of any potential harm to his partner, but he was getting tired of having to continuously muscle the dragonling along.

By the time the duo reached the Enchanter Exam room, the Dragonborn child was panting with exhaustion while his companion somehow managed to get a free lunch on the way over. Grumbling a little, Luca had his partner take a nap in the corner, only to find that the dragon whelp had already beat him to the punch. Sighing and shaking his head, Luca closed the door to the room before making his way up to the front, where three Enchanters sat. One was Grandmaster Runette, the highest-ranking Enchanter in the headquarters at A-grade, while the other two, just as in the Alchemist Exam room, were both B-grade Master Enchanters.

"Before we begin the exam, I'd like to ask you if we could see your personal weapon. After a quick visit to Bristol, I was told that, according to you, you've only completed two creations, both of which are your weapon. As they mentioned it was exceedingly unique in design, along with stating that only you can use it, I was very intrigued by it and thus would like to see it myself." Grandmaster Runette was as blunt as Luca had expected at this point. Considering he spent about two-and-a-half hours with his last two exams, the A-grade Enchanter had more than enough time to pop over to Bristol and back without too much delay.

As Luca had mastered the ability of Inventory, which he masqueraded as the spell [Dimensional Storage] (an odd Space-type spell that appeared more for Space Rings or similar items than for mages), he withdrew his Silver Eagle and its sniper attachment before handing both over to the Grandmaster Enchanter. "The weapon itself is named Silver Eagle. It's a more advanced, magic-based version of the Dwarven creation of muskets and flintlocks. It requires mana to create a projectile, a bullet, that is then fired at the any. As the bullet is made of mana, it can be of almost any element, with the cost for each being different based on the element's tier. It can hold up to 9 bullets at once. There are also bullets created with spells instead of elements, which was what I used during the bandit subjugation, a [Thunderbolt] spell bullet. It costs the same mana to create a spell bullet as is required for the spell itself." After listing off a fair bit of the handgun's specifications, Luca then added on that the second part was meant to be attached to the original weapon, turning it into a long-range weapon capable of outperforming all but C-rank and higher Rogues that focused on archery. Of course, he did not forget to clarify that his weapon was very noisy, making a sneak attack only possible a few times before he would be tracked down.

One of the two Master Enchanters, a woman named Eleanora, marvelled at the combination of ingenuity and craftsmanship, "I'm sure the Dwarves would be absolutely beside themselves if they found out that a child outdid their own creation. What I'd give to see that." She looked at the boy both critically and inquisitively, "This might be considered rude, but, dare I ask if the guild can study this weapon of yours? I'm sure we can make fantastic new designs from it. Some of these runes alone appear to be more complex and refined compared to our current ones."

The young lad smiled, "Go right ahead. I've discovered that, upon becoming a Lv. 4 Mage, I can no longer use this weapon as I did before. It was designed to be used by even a novice, after all. It can't handle greater power." He was not lying when he said it was meant to be a novice's cheat weapon, as that was what he needed up until now to make up for his lack of spells and mana. The System had decided, now that Luca had reached Lv. 4 and was more than capable of proper spellcasting, the handgun and its attachment was no longer needed. It then made an odd quest for Luca to bequeath it to the guild for research. "The previous restriction of it being bound to myself alone has been removed, so anyone can use it. That said, it can still cause destruction comparable to a high-level mage duel." Of course, due to him being the original creator, Luca was still able to use it without the restriction.

Grandmaster Runette had a smile wider than Luca had seen previously, "You're already C-grade Enchanter, just one without a formal license. By the time we're done here, you'll have your own Professional Accomplishment. This could greatly improve our current magecrafting designs." This time, Luca was not surprised to hear this, as the System had clarified that it would be considered as such. "Now then, we've wasted quite a bit of time talking about your first two creations. Let's get down to business. We have gathered a number of varying materials for you to craft an item with. What you decide to create is up to you, but you must use these items. Whatever formulas and designs you create with the magic paper will be kept by the guild for research, cataloguing or educational purposes, while the item itself can be done with as you wish."
