Getting no response from Si Xia, Yu Chen turned back towards the stairs when her arm was again grabbed by Si Xia. "I swear to god.." Chen shouted as she turned around, but was cut off by Si Xia as he said, "Let's take the elevator." before he began dragging her towards the direction of the elevator.
Yu Chen hung her head in shame. She was definitely not thinking straight. She had threatened to punch Si Xia when he was doing nothing except worrying about her. She had also not thought to take the elevators and had been thinking of stairs just because she had seen them first.
Chen was getting ready to apologise to Si Xia when they reached the second floor and went towards Xiao Hai's room. They went in, but the doctor had been right. There was no point. Xiao Hai lay on a bed with an IV attached to his arm and bandage around his torso and one of his arms. Chen was slightly relieved to see that he was breathing normally and there was no oxygen mask in sight.
They came out after a minute and Yu Chen parked herself in a bench in front of room 205. She fully planned on checking up on Sam, and Si Xia, who had knelt in front of her, could do nothing to stop her. But to Chen's surprise, Xia asked, "Do you want anything?"
It took Chen a few seconds to process the question, and when she did, she was beginning to shake her head but then she thought better of it as her stomach jumped at the thought of food. "I'd love a shake or a juice or something. Thank you." she said with a sweet smile and Xia responded with one of his own before getting up to go and get it for her.
Just as Si Xia vanished from sight, the two police officers came out of room 205. The female one still seemed to be holding a grudge against Yu Chen as she made an annoyed face, but the male officer said to her, "You may go in Miss Chen. He has been asking for you." Yu Chen nodded and headed in.
As she entered to room, relief washed over Yu Chen. Sam looked a lot better than Xiao Hai. He was conscious and sitting up for one thing. There were no needles or IVs in sight as he sat looking out of the window.
Chen took in Sam's condition before he noticed Chen's presence. Though he didn't have any major injuries, he was still pretty banged up. Specially his face and hands, which seemed to have taken the brunt of the beating. Every inch of his face and hands that was not covered in band - aids was bruised and turning slightly purple. Sam looked like he had taken a very bad beating, but nothing that would have a long term impact.
He turned his head as Chen shuffled into the room. "Oh thank God you're not hurt!" Sam exclaimed as Chen pulled out a chair and sat down next to his bed.
"How are you feeling?" she asked, remembering their last conversation and not being able to look at him. "Oh you know. Every inch of my body is aching, and my face looks like a boiled potato. But other than that, never better." Sam's voice sounded completely wrong as he said this.
