Chapter 29 - After the Tragedy 7

The other day as soon as Captain Max arrived in his office, Paul appeared to tell what he had talked to Jack the night before, Captain Max was also surprised that even though he was so young Jack had more experience than he imagined and sent for the soldiers who were on the Royal Road at the time that Jack said.

The soldiers came quickly after being summoned by Captain Max, so Max soon questioned the soldiers who remembered meeting hunters on the Royal Road and spoke to a hunter named Ron.

The hunters who were on the Royal Road that day didn't remember anything so unimportant to them, but one of the soldiers who was the soldier who spoke to Ron remembered that the name of that soldier was Aaron and he knew Ron because a friend of his he had trained to be a hunter before becoming a soldier and told several stories about village hunters.

He didn't know why Captain Max wanted to know about this story and if he could be in trouble because of it, but Aaron was a responsible soldier and he knew that Captain Max was fair and would understand if he explained what he knew.

"Captain, I was the one who talked to hunter Ron that day on the Royal Road."

"What is your name, soldier?"

"My name is Aaron, captain."

"Okay Aaron, can you tell me how you knew one of the hunters who had come through the forest?"

"I had never seen hunter Ron, captain, but I heard a lot about him and other hunters hearing stories from a friend of mine who came from the villages and trained to be a hunter before he came to the capital and became a soldier."

"What stories did you hear?"

"I heard a lot of stories, captain, but the story I remember most was about the hunters' skills and who were the strongest hunters in the villages, Ron and Mark were the strongest hunters and they were in the same village."

"Private Aaron, I appreciate your honesty in telling me that you were the one who talked to this hunter, we have a prisoner who was a hunter before and said he was in that group of hunters the day you spoke to Hunter Ron, will you can you recognize him?"

"I cannot guarantee, captain, but I can try."

After that Captain Max sent the other soldiers away and he took only Aaron and Paul to the cell where Jack was, after spending several months in prison right after Tim's death, Jack had a big beard on his face, but he still could be recognized.

Aaron approached the cell and Jack soon realized that he was the soldier who had spoken to Ron that day, Aaron didn't recognize Jack easily because he was older and bearded and Aaron hadn't paid much attention to Jack that day.

"Can I speak to the prisoner, captain?"

"You can."

"My name is Aaron and I am the soldier who was on the Royal road that day, do you remember me?"

"Yes, I remember you and that you recognized Ron who is a hunter from my village, you said that we could not stay on the Royal Road that day because we had swords and bows, and Ron said that we had come from the forest."

"Ron said we were investigating why the animals' behavior had changed and you told us about the king's orders and that the trees near the road had been cut down."

Hearing this Aaron believed much more that Jack was one of the hunters that day, Aaron had noticed that he had a young man close to Ron and Mark, and the hunters in the same village usually stayed together.

"Captain, the prisoner correctly described what happened that day when I talked to hunter Ron, I remember a young man who looked like that prisoner that day, but that day the prisoner was in good armor, without a beard and was younger too."

Hearing this, Captain Max was much more confident that Jack was actually the hunter he met with Private Aaron that day, and if that were true then Jack was from the same village as two of the best hunters in all the villages and was over 1 year old of experience as a hunter.

Captain Max had already gone to the forest with some soldiers to hunt some animals when he was an ordinary soldier, Max could remember how dangerous wild animals were, lions, bears, wolves, hyenas and various animals that could kill them at any time.

If Jack was part of a group with few hunters who went through the forest until he reached the road, then surely Jack had some skill at the time that was more than a year ago, now Jack should be even more experienced.

"Thanks for the information, Private Aaron."

"Prisoner Jack, knowing your skills as a hunter and the current situation our kingdom is in, I decided to release you from prison if you accept in exchange to join the army of our kingdom."

"You have committed a serious crime by doing your duty and protecting your village, so I will trust you and make you my subordinate, but know that in the current situation in our kingdom you could end up dying if a war breaks out."

"Thanks for the opportunity, Captain, I agree to become a soldier in the kingdom's army and promise to do my duties."

"Okay, I'm still going to have to audition with you to test your skills, if you have any skills you will join our army."

At the words of Captain Max, the other guards who were nearby were surprised, Jack was happy to have the opportunity to get out of prison faster and Paul was also happy to have helped the grandson of his old friend.

With the captain's orders, the guards opened Jack's cell freeing him from prison, as soon as Jack got out of prison Captain Max asked him to go to the guards' training camp, the guards knew what he would do and went to get some weapons and organize the targets.

Some more experienced guards put on their armor and prepared themselves because they knew they were going to fight Jack in this training, the guards who were off duty at that time gathered at the training camp when they realized that the captain was with the prisoner.

Some soldiers who were nearby also realized that their captain would do something interesting and started to gather at the guards' training camp, Jack soon realized that several people were gathering close to where he was and Max was used to it.
