Gone away from him and there was nothing he could do to bring him back. Darkness had enveloped his eyes and the floor had rushed up to meet him at this realisation.
Max had collapsed with a thud on the bedroom door, which had brought out Alina from her agony. She had blinked several times before realising that the wailing sound was coming from her mouth and had closed her lips to stop it.
She had placed Alex back on the bed and had wiped away the tears that had spoiled out of her eyes before turning her head to look at Max. Those had been the last tears she had cried since Alex's death. Crying, all emotions to be precise, had escaped her ever since that moment.
Alina opened her eyes and sat up with a huff. "Guess I won't be able to sleep tonight either." she muttered to herself as Alina got up from her bed and headed downstairs to go use the washroom.
She stopped dead in her tracks as she caught sight of herself in the mirror in her room in the little light coming in from the windows. She shook her head after a few seconds and turned away, running a hand through her hair. "I guess it'll be a while before I'm used to it." she mumbled, walking out of the room and down the stairs.
Alina stopped dead at the bottom of the stairs as her eyes caught sight of a lone figure curled up on the couch. Max was sitting in fetus position with his knees digging into his chest and arms around knees. He was rocking back and forth and seemed to be muttering something. Plus, he was definitely short of breath as he sucked in huge gasps of sir.
Alina wondered what was wrong with him as she walked towards the couch, calling ou Max's name.
But he did not seem to hear her, only the muttering and rocking intensified. Alarmed, Alina ran over and shook Max with all her might. Max's teeth rattled in his mouth and he seemed to come out of it. But there still seemed to be something wrong with him. The muttering and rocking stopped, but Max slapped away Alina's hands and he started to struggle even more for breath.
It was with horror that Alina realised that Max was having a panic attack. "Ohhhhhh!!!! What should I do?!?! WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?!?" Alina panicked as she tore at her hair.
She moved to hug Max but his eyes darted from side to side and he shrinked away in fear. Alina stopped, her hands in the air wondering what to do.
"Max! MAX!!" Alina called out to him, "It's okay. It's all okay." she said once his panic stricked eyes found her. She planted herself on the foot of the couch, her hands still in the air indicating that she had no intention to touch him.
"It's okay Max. It'll be all okay. Deep breaths okay. Just try and take deep breaths." she said, summoning her most soothing voice given the situation. It seemed to miraculously work as Max's eyes had stopped darting and we're focused on her. Though he had begun to rock back and forth once again, but Alina could worry about that later.
