Chapter 3 - Chapter 2 - Fateful Encounter

"You are part demon. Most probably of the high-level demon races." The priest told her as they entered the house.

"Why do you think so?"

"Because I couldn't exorcise you." He said as he pushed a door to some room open. Nova laughed at him. When he remained silent, she gulped. "You really did?"

"I was young and scared Nova." He looked into her eyes. "And my resolve to raise you wasn't so strong. I wasn't a strong person and I had my own insecurities and it just happened one day. I felt suffocated and I couldn't bear it anymore. At the moment you, one of my worries, were right in front of me. So, it just happened. But I failed and came back to my senses. You just laughed even though I had tried to exorcise you. You have no idea how much I regretted and cried that day."

Raymond was in the room they had entered. The priest nodded at him and they all took a seat. "Back to the topic. None of your parents were demons and your dad knew nothing about contracts with demons. So, your reason for existing is unknown. Unless you were a demon who took over the human baby in the womb but you genuinely seem not to have any other memories."

"Do have any memories, Nova? You can tell us. Even if you've been a demon your whole life, you're still the Nova I raised." Priest Andrew stared anxiously at Nova.

"I... I may have been." Nova admitted. They stared at her, waiting to explain further.

"I always have these feelings of Deja-vu. I know that's common but I have for the most unusual things. Like thinking and talking about my horn. Using my powers. Many more. I had flashes of somethings in my dream once. I don't remember now but I do know that it was important and that it was something more than a dream. But now that I think about it, it could have just been a dream of some sorts."

They sighed in relief. "So, you aren't sure. If you start getting those flashes for real, make sure to tell me right away." Raymond said. "You do know that I'll oversee you and help you control your abilities over these few days."

Raymond leaned back into his chair. "But till now we know two of your abilities. You are able to hear thoughts, that ability may be a clue to what demon you are. And your control over fire. This ability is common to all demons." Nova was finding it hard to take in all so much information at once.

"You...How do you all know so much about demons? And if they exist what other supernatural things exist?" Nova looked at them questioningly. Raymond slid a book across the table to which Priest Andrew looked at him, annoyed. "Take care of that." Raymond snickered to which he got a glare. He then nodded, holding his laughter in.

Nova grabbed the book. It was old and its pages were falling. She carefully turned the pages and there were many writings. She didn't understand anything until the language became English. "This is...!"

Yeah. That's information about demons. It was recorded by every priest who witnessed their existence." Raymond said.

"Not only demons but angels too?" Nova was dumbfounded. Angels existed! She was always excited at the fact that she had a guardian angel.

"So-"

"You don't have guardian angels." Nova was crestfallen. "Well not exactly. There are angels assigned to every person but they look at how you're doing once or twice every two years?" Raymond explained. Nova was a little happy but her dream was still shattered. She was hoping she had a sexy guardian angel who she'd see every day and tease. Raymond stared at her. She was behaving weirdly even though she was always weird.

"Wait, doesn't that mean my guardian angel knows I'm a half-demon?" The priest was shocked. He didn't expect that question from Nova. She had really been paying attention. Raymond looked at him, muddled. He didn't know what to say to answer Nova but the priest was straightforward.

"I can't tell you. WE can't tell you." Nova looked at them. She understood. At this point, she didn't want to whine. They had their reasons like she had hers.

"So? Is that it?" She asked. Raymond and the priest nodded at each other. "Read the book after you move. Not that. A copy obviously. And if there are any questions, we'll answer them when you visit."

"I'm moving? When? I thought I was staying another-"

"You're moving in a week. Priest Andrew and I picked a place for you." They both grinned at her. Nova jumped in joy and hugged them. "Thank you so very much!"

"Go pack things you need. The place is furnished. It's your birthday gift." Nova skipped to her room and laid on her bed. She was excited. A week more and she'd be at her new house.

The packing when smoothly. She didn't have many things. Saying farewell to everyone was hard for her, especially to Raymond and Priest Andrew. But she did it because she was excited and it wasn't like she was moving out of country; she could visit anytime. she just needed to get a job, earn enough and buy a vehicle. She wanted a bike. She waved bye as she entered the taxi. Most of her things were already there and she just had to unpack. One of the orphanage kids, who had moved out years ago, helped her shift all things.

When she entered the building, a person dashed into her. She stared at him. He was tall, had broad shoulders, his hair was shiny black and he had crystal blue eyes. And he looked handsome! Nova drew in a sharp breath and mumbled a sorry. As she went past him, he caught her hand. "Do I....." She stared him, inquisitively.

"Do I know you?" He asked.

"I... I don't think so." Nova thought about it. But she was sure she had never met anyone with as clear blue eyes as him. He grinned, apologetically and rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh! I'm sorry. I....You just looked so familiar." He smiled and said another sorry before he left.

Nova was in a daze. She lived her life around boys who looked like potatoes compared to guys just now and now she was sure she wouldn't be able to talk to Raymond without uttering the word 'potato'. She laughed to herself and went to the counter.

"Nova Aine." She said and the person gave her the keys after exchanging a few words. Nova used the elevator to go to her room. She was really happy with the place selected. She had come to her place to leave all her things before saying goodbye officially. It was just a two-hour drive away. Her college was really close to and there was a supermarket a two-minutes' walk away.

Her college was going to start in a week and she was really excited. She couldn't wait to meet new people and make new friends. Maybe she'd have some kind of love life too! Maybe with that hottie, she just met? Nova shook her head in embarrassment.

When she reached her floor, she dashed into another person. She said sorry and walked straight ahead. "Um...! You dropped something." The person who she dashed into said. She looked back and saw her purse on the floor. She quickly grabbed it.

"Thank you." When she looked at the man's face, she saw it was the same man she had dashed into before. "Ah...You're..." She forgot she didn't know his name.

"Demi. You can call me Demi." He flashed a smile at her. Nova was about the melt with the overdose of handsomeness. If she stayed any longer, she had no idea what Raymond and the boys back home would turn into. He extended his hand for a handshake. Nova looked at his hand. She was thinking about how someone could have such nice hands.

Demi waved his hand in front of her and she broke out of the gaze. "Ah. Sorry."

"Nova. I thought you-" She shook the hand he extended. She thought he had gone out of the apartment a few minutes. How did he come here? Did he take the stairs?

"I see we're neighbors. I guess we're going to meet more often." He smiled, once again and Nova sighed. His cheeks reddened. "I... I got to go. So, let's talk later." He said as he slowly let go of her hand and ran away after waving at her. She waved back. Raymond and all had totally turned into brinjals.

She got a call and picked it up. "You reached?" Raymond asked.

"Yeah. I'm entering, Brinjal."

"Brinjal?" Raymond asked, confused. Nova's face reddened and she laughed. "Nothing. I think I just had a fateful encounter." Nova completely forgot that she was going to ask Demi how he was there when she saw him leave the apartment not two minutes ago.
