Pete ended his speech and came towards us
"Long time no see, John, and won't you introduce your friend to me?" he said, nodding his head in my direction
"She's not my friend, she is my fiancée, and her name is Cynthia," he said proudly and placed his hand on my shoulder to acclaim me as his
"Well, that's one way to greet your favourite brother that you haven't seen in years "
"Cousin," John corrected him
"Touche" he placed his hand on his chest to dramatise his heartache
I watched as both of them banter at each other, leaving me awe struck, for a moment, I thought they had forgotten about me when Pete said
"Lovely to meet you, Cynthia." he said as he stretched his hand towards me
I stood still for a moment before I extended mine to his. I felt a delicious tingling sensation from my hands down to the whole of my body
We stared at each other for a moment
John cleared his throat, separated our hands from each other and took me to sit on the couch in the living room
"You like him too, don't you?"
"Why would you say that?" I asked, confused if he knew about us
"I saw the way you were both staring at each other, and everyone who knows us likes him more"
"No, please don't think that way, I love you and only you." I said while caressing his face, he held my hand and kissed it
"You are the best thing that has happened to me" he said, shaking his head
I started to feel guilty, and I don't know if I should tell him about our past together.
"Everyone, let's dance the night away to celebrate this beautiful couple" John's mother said, drawing everyone's attention to her
"DJ play my song" she shouted, making it obvious she was drunk from her nth shot of tequila
"Let me help your mom to her room", I told John and left him by the bar to help the poor woman from the stage to the stairs that led to her room
We both fell on her bed, and I helped her out of her shoes and covered her
"Thanks for staying by my son's side and making him happy" she said while holding my hand
" it's nothing ma" I said
"zzzzz" she replied
I smiled and left the room
" So when are you going to tell John about us? "
I was shocked to see Pete resting on the wall in the narrow corridor
"You scared me" I said, placing my hand on my chest
"Sorry, I was just wondering if I should have spoken to you like a stranger or not. I don't want to be the reason you would have any problems with my brother "
"Yeah, I will tell him about us when the time is right" i said while rolling my eyes
"Okay, so you're getting married to him"
"Yeah, I am, he is a great guy, and he makes me happy, so yeah " I nodded my head, proceeding to walk back to the living room
"He makes you happy? " So you're not in love with him? " he said, replacing each step I put between us
I have always hated it when he is right, making me almost angry with myself
" I am in love with him" I said, raising my head higher to prove my statement
" And the sex? " he said while he walked closer, leaving an inch between us
"Trust me, our sex life is none of your business." I breathed and turned to see that he was very close to me, making the distance between our lips just an inch away.
I turned away from him as fast as I could.
Feeling out of breath, I ran out of the corridor, down the stairs to the living room, to where my future awaits me.
