Emma did not begin teaching Jun'Tal immediately.
Before she decided how to approach his training, she wanted to see exactly what his ability looked like when he used it deliberately.
She stood a short distance away from him near the edge of the training area, then held out one hand and nodded toward him. "Show me what you can do first. I want to see how your power behaves when you're actually trying to control it."
Jun'Tal looked around for something harmless before picking up a dry leaf from the ground and placing it carefully on his palm. He focused for a moment, released the smallest amount of energy he could manage, and the air above his hand began to distort before the leaf darkened around the edges and finally caught fire.
Emma watched the entire process without saying anything, paying attention to the heat, the movement in the surrounding air, and the way Jun'Tal seemed to produce the effect.
Once the leaf had mostly burned away, Jun'Tal turned toward her.
