(Michelle Lui's POV)
The entrance to the mirror maze glowed like a portal.
Tall panes of glass slanted inward, outward, and sideways, reflecting the carnival lights in a thousand scattered colors. Red, violet, blue, gold—everything shimmered like a broken kaleidoscope.
"Alright, pairs!" the staff called cheerfully. "Hold onto each other or you will get separated!"
Vince threw his hands up. "SEPARATION IS THE POINT, MA'AM."
The staff blinked. "…Um."
Lara dragged him away before he could traumatize her. "Ignore him, he was born wrong."
Kate and Jeff entered first, disappearing into the maze with calm, normal couple energy.
Jasmine clung to Anthony's arm, practically glowing.
"Let's go, Anthony."
He nodded politely—but his eyes flickered sideways.
Toward me.
Then toward Steven.
A barely-there tightening around his jaw.
I quickly looked at the maze entrance instead. No need—absolutely NO NEED—to analyze that.
Steven and I stood at the threshold.
