The first house on the block was decorated like it wanted to win a neighborhood contest.
Spiderweb lights.
Pumpkins carved into dramatic expressions.
An animatronic witch that startled me so badly I slapped Anthony's arm on instinct.
"Sorry! Sorry—I didn't mean to hit you—"
Anthony rubbed his arm, a quick surprised laugh escaping him.
"It's fine. I should've warned you. That witch moved last year too."
"Oh, so you knew," I said, narrowing my eyes.
"I… forgot?"
"Lies."
Andy snickered behind us. "I'm recording all this. Great content."
"Do NOT post me punching someone on the internet."
"No promises."
We stepped up to the porch, and the elderly woman tending the candy bowl beamed.
"Aww—what lovely costumes! Especially you, dear."
She gestured at me. "Such a beautiful enchantress."
My cheeks warmed.
"Oh—thank you—"
"And the boys! A magician and a shadow rogue?" She winked. "Handsome and dangerous."
Anthony coughed. Andy posed dramatically.
