By the time we reached the very last house on the block, my pumpkin pail felt like it weighed ten kilos.
But honestly?
It was Worth it.
Anthony glanced between my bucket and his with a look of pure, stunned betrayal.
"…How? How is yours fuller?"
I blinked innocently.
"I don't know?"
"Michelle," he said flatly. "I've never seen anyone… trick-or-treat like that."
My cheeks warmed.
He wasn't teasing. He sounded genuinely thrown off, and somehow that made me flustered.
"I just… got lucky," I murmured.
Andy burst out laughing. "Lucky? She wiped the floor with us."
Anthony frowned at his bucket.
"I just—thought I'd do better."
The way he said it—quiet, almost childishly disappointed—made my heart twist.
This was the same boy I'd spent years secretly pining after.
The same boy I used to stare at in hallways like an idiot.
