Chapter 604 - Empirica 4

It was not until the area was unguarded and had nobody around that Alyssia approached and used the same method to open it and enter.

She went further down until she could feel the presence of the living being getting closer and closer with each step.

Her eyes widened once she saw the source of what the system had picked up on.

A woman matching the features of the previous woman was in front of her eyes, but the only difference between her and the woman was how her hair was parted in the middle, revealing her purple eyes.

Her body was a little more slender with a weaker aura than the other woman, which showed a difference in what kind of life they had been living.

One had been living a life of a ruler, or what had been known as a supreme pontiff.

The other had been living like a prisoner underground, which was kept as a way to protect her or to keep her imprisoned for other selfish purposes.

It was unknown what it was about, but the skills could help her learn more about herself.

Pieces of information gathered soon helped to reveal something very important.

The history of Empirica Island was widely known, but there were differences when it came to what everyone knew and what was gathered from the woman who had left and the woman in front of Alyssia.

There was a tale about how the founding Pontiff established Empirica Island, overcoming great obstacles, leading to the present situation.

What others did not know was that it had not started with only one person who had been known to everyone, and legends that had surrounded the current Pontiff, who was currently ruling over Empirica Island.

There were differing opinions based on how the Pontiff rarely appeared in public.

Some were the usual speculations related to health, and many other reasons for it.

The most popular ones were that the Pontiff position was only passed on to those with a certain lineage.

Those who had seen the Pontiff of each generation could think the same, but not everyone would be so willing to believe such a thing if they had long witnessed and remembered the appearance of the Pontiff.

Those who were smart enough to figure things out had noticed how it was more like the Pontiff had never aged and did not look any different in each generation she appeared.

It could only be explained that each Pontiff looked remarkably similar, or it was the very same person each time.

Those who had noticed such a thing were made to believe in their faith even more, as they would worship the Supreme Pontiff as a sacred figure closer to a god.

The information that all of them were lacking was that there was far more to the story involving the founding of the Empirica Island.

Rather than it being a tale of the Supreme Pontiff, it was a tale of two sisters.

It was a tale of two sisters named Una and Deux.

Alyssia could go through it all and learn a lot, but she was far more interested in the real thing in front of her.

She cancelled the feature that cloaked her body, making her invisible before stepping out into the open.

She could see the woman more clearly as she got closer.

The woman was slightly submerged in water within what seemed to be some form of fountain.

Her arms and legs were chained, causing her range of movements to be quite restricted.

Her range of movement would be limited to that fountain area and nearby, where there were some other things put there for her, like a comfortable sleeping area, food and much more.

It did seem quite luxurious in some ways, but it was still a prison, and she was a prisoner.

Her eyes looked over, and she let out a startled voice. "Sister? Are you back?"

There was a lot of negativity within her tone of voice that was mixed with a tiny bit of hope and anticipation.

It would be the kind of complicated feelings that most would have toward someone they both loved and hated at the same time.

There seemed to be feelings mixed in that a prisoner would have toward their captor, but the same feelings they would have for being given things and having some form of company after being left alone for quite some time.

The only comfort that she would have had during her solitude would have likely come from the times that her sister would have visited her.

Her twin sister may have been the one to keep her like that, but she had nobody else in her life who could have a positive effect on her.

When Alyssia came into view after she stepped into the light, her tone became slightly more cautious, but there was a hint of curiosity mixed within it. "Who are... Are you from the Mink Tribe? Sulong in this kind of environment? Perhaps a variant?"

She seemed knowledgeable about the Mink Tribe and did not show any negative feelings toward them, which made Alyssia feel more comfortable.

She stepped closer before looking at the surroundings a little more, before looking back at the woman. "I was born in the Mink Tribe, but my situation is a new development. I am visiting this place in secret, and I have my reasons for doing so.

I mean you no harm or any harm to this island, but certain factors have brought me here that I could not say no to. My name is Alyssia Lucine. Nice to meet you. I hope that my presence here does not make you too uncomfortable."

The woman listened quietly as she tried to understand the situation, but her guard was still raised quite a lot.

Her curiosity did not disappear even if she wanted to keep up her vigilance toward a stranger and an intruder.

Her sister had constantly warned her of the dangers that existed and kept reminding her.

The problem was that she had been starved of affection and the most basic interactions besides those she had with her sister.

It was a surprise to have someone else appear in front of her. "How did you get in here? My sister has protected Emprica fiercely for a long time now, and she would never allow anyone to learn of my existence. You can call me Deux."

Alyssia shrugged in response. "Technology is advancing, so there is always a way to achieve such things. Even without it... I am actually very powerful. How about I keep you company, and we can talk through the night while I am here.

It has been quite a long journey to get here, so it would be a shame to leave right away."

It took quite some time, but she finally started to lower the guard of Deux, and they were able to become a lot more comfortable with each other.

Alyssia shared news of the outside world along with her adventures, while Deux started to open up more about herself, sometimes mentioning things related to her relationship with her sister.

Alyssia ended up playing the role of a mental health counsellor in some parts, as she noticed how Deux had not been in the best mental state.
