"Tch, you pesky worms" - Yue grunted as she watched a new wave of ice monsters appear in the room - "How are you guys doing?"
"We're fine, a little tired because this thing is tougher than we thought" - Shizuku [Great Schnee Maze] (8)
as she wiped the sweat from her forehead - "I'm starting to hate turtles"
She and Remia had been facing a group of Ice Turtles, which was annoying because Remia had type disadvantage, and the turtles' defense was extremely high, which made Shizuku's sword attacks almost useless, mind you, the experience they were giving them was huge, so with each fight they were getting between 20 to 30 levels, which made the next one a little easier.
Cloud was watching everything silently as he thought about the possibility of getting this over with quickly and then going back to keep leveling up, or even training in [Orcus], the maze that was supposedly the hardest to complete.
"What are you thinking, Cloud?" - Tio asked as she looked at her lover.
"Nothing important" - Cloud answered as he started to think - "By the way, do you think they'll make it?"
"Make it to the limit of the possible level?" - Tio asked while frowning slightly - "Yes, the problem is that if we keep going like this, it will take us at least a week to complete the maze, at least if we wait long enough for the monsters to reappear."
Cloud frowned because that was too long, he was even sure it was possible for Kouki Amanogawa to make his move.
"Cloud, we'd better move forward" - said Shizuku, as if she had noticed the thoughts inside the young blond's head - "We can go back after sending the others home, then we'll have less worries"
"Oh, I hadn't thought of that" - nodded Kaori as she remembered her classmates - "It's possible that Ehit will go against them to try to have something to hold us back"
Cloud was silent before nodding - "I understand, let's move forward"
"Hai!" -the girls exclaimed as they looked ahead and saw a single long frozen corridor.
* * * * * * *
"This is not what I expected..." - Cloud said with a frown.
The group had been walking for 15 minutes thanks to Kaori's speed buff, only to come across a drop-off that connected to a huge crystal maze.
"Do you think we can destroy the maze from here if we drop a bomb?" - Kaori asked innocently.
Cloud gave her a blank look because he wasn't expecting this proposal, although he had to admit it was interesting, too bad they couldn't do it because it might make the maze take this as a hostile attack and they wouldn't be able to complete it, making all their efforts useless.
"Bad move give him a hurry" - sighed Shizuku as she looked at the ice slide that served to enter the place - "Do you think you can see the end?"
"Sorry, but this place prohibits flight, and there is also a strange fog blocking the view from the middle of the maze" - replied Tio as she shook her head.
The girls looked at each other before looking at Cloud, who seemed to be analyzing the situation.
The girls waited a few more minutes in silence, until they watched as the blond walked towards the slide - "There, I've memorized the paths leading towards the fog-blocked half, that'll give us a small advantage"
"Ok" - nodded the girls as they slid down the ice slide until they reached the ground.
"Thank god for thermal clothes or we would have ended up with all our butts frozen" - said Tio as she shook her head - "That aside, this place looks different now that we're down"
Cloud looked around before frowning slightly because he could feel a faint flow of mana in the place - "Be careful, there might be a trap around here nearby"
Yue decided not to risk it, so she put a barrier around her - "I recommend you do the same, Kaori"
"I understand" - Kaori nodded as she created a second layer of barrier around her.
The group slowly advanced through the icy maze, until one moment Yue stopped.
"Yue-san?" - Tio asked in surprise.
"My barrier blocked something and broke..." - Yue replied with a frown - "Cloud's words were true, this place is full of traps"
"Were you able to detect the guy?" - Cloud asked seriously.
"Forced teleportation" - replied Yue while squinting - "The mana flow stayed close, meaning the dimensional movement was going to be a few meters away, my hypothesis is that it was inside the ice, causing a slow and painful death from lack of air"
Shizuku felt a shiver run down her back before shaking her head - "Wait, that doesn't explain why the barrier managed to defend us from that magic"
"It's simple, we put in the barrier conditioning [magical activation]" - Kaori replied with a smile while looking at her friend - "Our barrier didn't protect against physical attacks, but rather against mana, that's why we managed to block the trap"
"But wouldn't that be dangerous?" - Shizuku asked while frowning - "If the trap had been physical..."
"We would have managed to react in time" - replied Tio while crossing her arms - "You don't have to belittle your abilities, Shizuku-san, traps have an activation time, which we can use to defend ourselves if they are physical, but if it activates a magical process, that would make it potentially lethal"
Remia remained silent because she honestly didn't understand any of these strange terminologies.
Shizuku decided not to say anything else because she felt she couldn't win against them in terms of magical knowledge.
"Leaving that aside, we'd better continue carefully, after all, we don't know when we'll encounter another type of traps, so I recommend that we go with a magical barrier and a physical one now" - said Cloud seriously.
"Understood" - nodded Yue as the group continued to advance through the frozen maze.
* * * * * * *
"I should have created a magic compass, or something like that" - said Cloud as he shook his head.
The group had been wandering through the maze for the past few hours, and they were currently "lost", after all, every time they came to a new corridor, it led to a dead end.
"Cloud... I can feel a faint flow of mana through that area" - Yue said as she pointed towards one of the new corridors they had discovered.
Cloud raised an eyebrow before following the direction Yue had handed him, arriving at a place that was different from the path they had traveled so far.
"Looks like we've come to a maze of mirrors now" - Tio muttered as she frowned and walked towards a wall, which was reflecting his image - "It's strange that until now the ice hadn't reflected our silhouettes, in fact, we could see through them without much trouble..."
"And that makes me have a bad feeling" - Cloud answered seriously - "That this has changed just now that we are in a maze, is worrisome, more so when the ice during our way through this place had been so dense that we couldn't see anything"
Yes, this maze was being a pain in the ass, the first part was a crystal clear cave, half of the second part was a maze with ice so dense they couldn't see anything through it, making for an annoying contrast, and now they were in the second half of the maze, an area that seemed to be made of mirrors.
"How long have we been inside this place?" - Kaori asked with a frown.
"Honestly, I have no idea, though if I had to do a quick calculation, I'd say at least about 6 hours" - answered Cloud as he started to think - "And we don't seem to be able to get out of this mirror maze for a good while, which is worrying"
"Should we take a break to regain our strength?" - Remia asked as she looked around and noticed with relief how the members of her group nodded - "Ok, I'm going to prepare dinner"
Cloud quickly built a makeshift camp next to a barrier stone to prevent accidents, after all, they were inside a hostile place and they didn't know if there would be more undetectable dangers in the surroundings.
15 minutes later, Remia had everything ready for today's dinner, which was not very difficult because they had already cut everything they needed to start with the preparation.
"Dinner will be ready in 10 minutes" - Remia said with a smile.
Cloud nodded before he felt that he had heard something.
Yue frowned because she also sensed movements nearby.
"Cloud..." - Tio said seriously.
"I know, I heard it too" - Cloud replied as he looked around, only to notice how the mirrors kept showing only their silhouettes - "This is getting stranger and stranger..."
"What's wrong, Cloud?" - Kaori asked curiously, though she quickly sensed a strange scent - "Cloud... we have company..."
"I know" - answered Cloud seriously as he drew his spear and prepared to fight - "Shizuku, Kaori, I want you to protect Remia"
"Ok!" - The former hero team members exclaimed.
