Chapter 21 - A Penny for your thoughts?

AUTHOR'S POV

'What should I expect?', Diana sulk alone in the empty balcony. A fair-weather friendship is nothing but a brittle glass. Since they've known each other only for a short while, she understood that she cannot easily tame a lion with a flick of her hand. It's such a shame, because she thought that there was a tiny bit of sincerity with Scott. That they were leading each other somewhere worth it. Somewhere better. Well, if someone wants to get a part in your life, they make simple things to burrow themselves in a space in your heart. Grow a little bit in there until it flourishes into something beautiful. Yet, she was wrong. The years of pain that Scott endured, and the anger that he kept within made his heart turn to stone. Scott locked his heart where only him has the key. Then again, she was nothing but a plaything in his vacation in this paradise.

The food for dinner, that was supposed for Scott and Diana, was already cold. Diana didn't have the appetite to eat so she just waited there until the island staff she called arrives. A moment later she heard footsteps approaching the balcony. "A penny for your thoughts?," a man spoke from the dark.

Diana froze as she recognize the familiar voice. She squinted at the direction where she heard him. When her vision adjusted in the dim light, she saw three blonde men drawing near the balcony. One of them is surely William. "I don't think I invited you here", Diana stood up defensively as the men approach. Her heart started to pound so hard like it's going to pop out of her chest.

"Looks like your date left you? Maybe me and my friends can join you," William said as he sat on the baluster. "This is Ryan, and this is Tommy", pointing to his friends who were already blocking the way out of the balcony, and the french door going to the bungalow.

"Man, you're right. She's… a goddess", Ryan said as he checked Diana out from head to toe licking his lips like a maniac. "I might not get enough of her", he smiled eerily.

"Please leave before I call the security.", Diana warned, keeping her cool to hide her fear.

"I'd love to see you try", William said with a smirk.

Diana trembled, as she lean her hand on the table. Garnering all her strength, now is not the best time to cry and be frail. She knew that with one move, these men will attack her and can easily take her down. 'What am I going to do? Someone help me', she thought, taking in a shaky breath as she glare at the three men. Swiftly, Diana swiped the steak knife on the table and pointed it on her neck. This shocked the three men as they widen their eyes and stood alert on their foot. "I am not afraid to die. Come near me and I'll show you", Diana said with full conviction.

"She's bluffing! Go get her Tommy!", William commanded as he nodded at Tommy.

Tommy approached closer as Diana stick the knife deeper on her neck until it bled a little. By the time Tommy was within Diana's reach, she suddenly attacked Tommy and stabbed him on his shoulder. Tommy wailed in pain and before he fell on the floor, Diana stabbed him again on his leg. "Who's next?", Diana asked. It's a good thing that her mother made her get trainings for self defense. Diana never thought the time that it would become very handy will arrive. As she face the strangers threatening her life alone, she realized that at the end of the day, she will be her own knight in shining armor.

"What the.. you crazy b*tch! I'm gonna tie you up, and suck you dry like a pulp!", William shouted in anger as he harden his fists into a ball.

"I'd love to see you try", Diana said with a straight face.

Tommy was crying in pain as he drag himself to the corner. Meanwhile, William signaled Ryan to come closer to Diana at the same time. Ryan jumped on her first, but Diana was able to dodge Ryan slashing his face with the knife. This made Ryan winced in pain and drop on the floor. William was able to grab Diana's hand and twisted it on her back, removing the knife, and throwing it away. "Game over, princess", William whispered on her ear as he licked her face trapping Diana from behind.

"I'm gonna slash your pretty face too!", Ryan said while pressing on his face, picking himself up.

Diana winced and stepped hard on William's foot, then banged her head backwards hitting his forehead. She tried to run but Ryan caught her foot. She kicked him hard several times until he released her. Before she could run away, William slapped her hard, with her head hitting the floor boards. Diana blacked out a little. Her sight went totally dark, and it went spinning. She went back to her senses when she felt hands touching her legs. With all her might, she kicked William as hard as she can, as she squinted trying to keep here eyes open. As she struggle for her life, blood gushed from her forehead. She could hear her loud grunts, as she taste blood from her mouth. As soon as William let go of Diana from all the kicks, Diana tried to get up and get away. However, William caught up onto her and punched her in the stomach. He tore her dress and tried to pin her down holding her wrists over her head as he try to kiss her neck. Hurriedly, Ryan ran up to aid William, grabbing Diana's ankles in place while she violently kick her legs.

Covering his ears with his hands, Tommy remained at the corner as he watch the two take her on. He couldn't believe how a supposed to be fun night turned to an absolute bloody chaos. Despite feeling nothing but pity for Diana, he still chose to stay quiet sinking in the corner of the balcony. Later, a loud howl was heard echoing from the shoreline. They didn't mind at first, as the two continue to taste Diana's dewy skin. William kept going, he paused when he closely heard a somewhat animal growling.

"G…g..guys.. s-stop right now", Tommy said as he squeezed himself on the wall.

Huffing and puffing, William and Ryan stopped and looked behind. As they peer in the dark, a pair of yellow eyes glowed up ahead. Slowly, they let Diana go as they stand aside. From the dark, a big black wolf revealed itself... growling and walking slowly towards them. Crying and beat, Diana couldn't believe her eyes as she curl on the floor, huggin herself. She could barely see, but she knows what just came.

"Easy.. easy..", William stepped back slowly. He reached for a candle glass holder and threw it at the wolf. The candle light went out, and the glass shattered hitting its face. Yet, it wasn't scared away. "Get away you piece of sh..", William shouted, making bluff gestures at the angry wolf. In an instant, the wolf attacked William, aiming for his leg biting him with so much force. William wailed in a lot of pain, as the fangs of the wolf sink deeper in his skin. Punching right into animal's face, William cried out loud while the wolf savagely tore his flesh.

An impulse ran through Ryan's head as he pick up a chair, and slam it on the wolf, only to make himself the next target. Growling low with blood oozing out of its mouth, the wolf jumped from all fours and aimed for Ryan's arm. He screamed loudly as the wolf uncontrollably gnaw his limb. Meanwhile, Tommy helped William to get up, as they try to escape the unexpected intervening attack from a rabid animal. When the wolf let go of Ryan, he rushed out screaming following the two on their way out of the bloody balcony.

With tiny sobs, Diana used her remaining strength to sit up. She tried to cover up her bare chest while she position her self upright. She touched her forehead only to see blood. Then, she turned her gaze on the black wolf who is slowly approaching her. Sadness and fear that were built up from her eyes continued to flow down her cheeks. Her memories from Emilia's fortune telling earlier came to her mind. All along, she has been stringing series of bad luck as seen from the tarot cards. And without any doubt, it starts now. Breathing through her mouth, she could taste a mix of her blood and tears. As she look ahead, Diana was threatened at the wolf drawing near. Without much strength to use, she closed her eyes tightly with her hand trembling in the air.

Surprisingly, she felt a warm sticky tongue licking her fingers. She was totally stunned how the wolf didn't take a big bite of her hand. Diana opened her eyes and pat the head of the wolf, as she let out the deepest sigh of relief she ever did. Then, the wolf licked her face, her forehead, and then back on her cheeks. Somehow, she felt comforted, as she crack her sullen face with a smile. "Thanks, wolf", she tearfully hugged the wolf before she collapsed on the floor.
