Lexie could not see her target. Darkness swallowed the room so completely that she felt severed from reality, as if the small chamber no longer existed around her.
Yet, she was certain she was not alone. She dared not turn around to face the figure looming at her back.
"Quiet," a voice rasped directly behind her.
Recognition washed over her; the person standing at her back was Isiah Duncan. Thinking back, she realized this was the exact oppressive aura she had felt when he had been strangling her against the tree. Trapped in this pitch-black vacuum with him, she knew that a single wrong move would cost her life.
Silent tears spilled down her bruised face, hot and bitter, as grief tore through her chest over her unavenged mother and sisters.
"Do you want to kill me that badly?" Lexie choked out, her voice cracking under the weight of her agony. "I do not mind dying... just... just let me kill him first. I will never forgive myself if I die before I end his life!"
