Chapter 281 - An Enduring Will

Lucas stared out the window into the bright sunshine. It would have been a good day to sit in the garden. Fresh tea with Eva's favorite snacks. On the table in front of him sat the letter from August, reporting that she still had not woken up.

Below the window sat the garden, trampled on by the soldiers who destroyed their home. The place where they were supposed to be safe. His finger tapped the armrest impatiently. Every second he spent here felt wasted. Yet, he had taken on these responsibilities and everything else for her.

Even the spirits felt weaker in the absence of her presence. Like they had all left with her. Lucas glanced at the letter once more. Arya and Ember had awoken, though they seemed weak and confused. Alphonse had locked himself away in his room, and August was overly worried about his condition.
