"G-Gold?!"
His startled cry rang through the avenue. That single word immediately drew everyone's attention.
"What?"
"Gold?"
"Where?"
People who had been looking at the soldiers instinctively turned toward the treasure wagon instead.
Those standing farther back pushed themselves onto their toes. Others craned their necks desperately, trying to catch even a glimpse.
Several children squeezed between adults, curious to see what had caused such an outburst.
Even the soldiers escorting the rear of the convoy instinctively glanced toward the shouting.
The man himself seemed to forget where he was. Overcome by curiosity, he took two hurried steps toward the wagon, hoping to look through the gap once more.
Several others unconsciously followed. Their eyes were glued to the chest.
Fortunately, the soldiers were quick. "Back off!!"
