Chapter 2 - Chapter One: What

Chapter One: what

My name is Alan. I have a twin brother, Alex. Our father, Adroson, and our mother, Alicia, belong to the most powerful family in Country A. By birthright, I am the Crown Prince. By duty, I am expected to marry young — fifteen years old, according to the royal family's rules. Strange, isn't it? But tradition demands heirs, and the bloodline must never end.

Yet my life as the son of the richest family is not as glamorous as it seems. People chase me for money, not for who I am. I hated it. Every smile felt fake, every friendship shallow.

Flashback: The Princes in the Palace

From the moment Alex and I were born, we were treated like symbols, not children. Guards followed us everywhere, servants bowed at our presence, and even our classmates whispered behind our backs. Every move was watched, every word judged.

I remember once, at age ten, trying to play football in the palace gardens. Within minutes, attendants rushed to stop us, terrified we might get hurt. "You are the heirs," they said. "You cannot risk injury."

Alex laughed bitterly that day. "We're not heirs, Alan. We're prisoners."

The Parents' Conversation

When we told our parents we wanted to live as normal students, they resisted.

Father's voice was stern. "Alan, Alex, you are royalty. You cannot hide who you are."

Mother's eyes softened, though worry lingered. "But perhaps… they need freedom."

I spoke firmly. "Father, I want to find a wife on my own terms. Not because of titles, not because of wealth. I want someone who sees me for me."

Silence filled the room. Then Father sighed. "If this is truly your wish, then so be it. But remember — secrets are heavy. Guard them well."

Changing Their Appearance

To keep our secret, Alex and I decided to change ourselves so we wouldn't look alike. Alex cut his hair short, sharp and neat, while I let mine grow longer, brushing against my forehead. He wore sporty clothes, always carrying a basketball, while I chose simple shirts and jeans.

"Now no one will guess we're twins," Alex said with a grin.

The First Day of School

The first day of school was unlike anything I had known. No guards followed us, no whispers of royalty trailed behind. We blended in, just two boys among hundreds. For the first time, I felt ordinary — and it was liberating.

Alan's POV:

I walked through the crowded hallways, my sketchbook tucked under my arm. Students laughed, shouted, and rushed past, unaware of who I truly was. It was easy to talk to people, easy to smile without suspicion. For once, I wasn't the Crown Prince. I was just Alan.

Alan and Bianca

Weeks passed, and I began to feel something I hadn't expected: happiness. I made friends, joined conversations, and even found myself drawn to someone. Her name was Bianca. She was bright, beautiful, and her laughter lit up the room.

One afternoon, I gathered my courage. "Bianca," I said nervously, "I know we've been friends for a while… but I like you. Will you be my girlfriend?"

She smiled, her eyes sparkling. "Yes, Alan. I'd love to."

For three years, we dated. We walked together after class, shared secrets, and I believed — truly believed — that she saw me for who I was, not for what I had.

But life has a way of changing when you least expect it.
