"That won't do. Think about it," Donna said to her daughter beside her as she made breakfast. "Shanshan has been here for so long, her mother must be worried sick. Shanshan surely doesn't want to make her mother worry."
Hearing this, Nini had a conflicted expression, but in the end, she knew her mother was right.
Listening to the conversation outside, Shanshan's eyes widened. After a moment of thought, she picked up a crude pencil stub from the nearby table and started drawing on a piece of paper.
Soon, a drawing appeared on the paper. It depicted an eyeball with a cross-shaped pupil and twisted tentacles—a very rudimentary self-portrait of Shanshan.
"Shanshan, what are you drawing? It looks so ugly," Nini asked curiously as she entered the room.
Shanshan stopped drawing, handed the bizarre picture to Nini, and said, "It's for you."
Nini took it, looking it over from every angle, but she couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be.
