A small, low house was Donna's home on the World Crown.
Inside, Nini held a bowl, eating and chattering excitedly to Shanshan beside her. They were just talking about ordinary things, but she couldn't help but feel happy. Shanshan, sitting next to her, listened quietly.
Donna, sipping her mushroom soup, smiled as she watched them. An adult's happiness is often mixed with too many other things, but a child's is different. Their joy can be so simple.
"Mom, can Shanshan sleep with me tonight?" Nini asked excitedly, holding her spoon.
"Of course, but you two have to go to bed early. No whispering under the covers."
Hearing this, Nini cheered, raising her spoon.
"Hurry up and eat, the bread's getting cold."
The oil lamp on the table flickered, filling the small room with a warm glow.
After dinner, the farming families had little in the way of entertainment. Once they washed up, they prepared for bed.
