"Captain! We've been overloaded for several minutes. The vortex furnace can't hold out much longer," Second Chief Engineer Audric's voice came through the communication tube to the cockpit.
"Lower our altitude and keep heading toward the target. I'm going outside to take a look."
Charles stepped onto the deck, bracing himself against the sea wind as he surveyed the pitch-black ocean. Everything around him was eerily calm, with no trace of abnormality. Yet, Charles knew this matter wasn't over. The enemy was surely lurking somewhere, watching the Narwhal.
What do they want with Deep? Does the Clan want his help? What kind of help?
He tried to find some clue, anything to deduce their purpose, but came up with nothing.
"Captain, if things get too difficult, maybe I should just leave the ship now," Deep said, walking over with a conflicted expression.
"Save it. They're here for me. Do you really think they'll spare the Narwhal just because you leave?"
