As the pinnacle of human technology, the atomic bomb's power was immense. There was no doubt that the white-armored men, the remaining Futan believers, and the civilians at the center of the blast had been utterly obliterated, not even leaving a trace behind.
Although Anna was uninjured, having hidden underground, the radiation was harming her body with every passing moment.
But Anna had no time to dwell on such minor issues. Her opponents had used such a powerful weapon just to deal with her. What on the Earth's surface *couldn't* they mobilize? Who were these people?
Just as Anna was pondering these questions, she heard the crisp sound of leather shoes approaching from behind.
Anna shifted her tentacles, first setting Olivia down from her embrace. She then turned the cross-pupiled eyeball embedded in her torso to look in that direction.
It was a middle-aged man in a sharp suit. He strode confidently toward Anna, occasionally lifting his right hand to glance at his wristwatch.
