Li Huowang sat on the wagon's driving board, lightly flicking the whip to urge the horse forward. Li Sui, dressed in a straw raincoat, sat beside him. He peered curiously at the sparrows on the branches through a new black veil hanging from his conical hat.
Li Huowang reached out and tapped the carriage. "Miaomiao, you don't have to stay inside all day; it's so stuffy. It's dusk now, so you can come out for some fresh air."
Bai Lingmiao lifted the curtain and gently sat beside Li Huowang. She removed the white gauze covering her eyes and looked around.
Gazing at her delicate profile, Li Huowang noticed that Bai Lingmiao seemed a little different. If her eyes had once been pink, they had now faded to a pale pinkish-white.
The implication was self-evident.
