"Hold the phone upright." Evan Fairchild's voice rose a few notches.
"No," Melody Monroe refused with a laugh.
Evan Fairchild stared at the ceiling. Hearing the sound of running water, he felt a familiar heat stir within him.
After her shower, Melody Monroe picked up her phone and walked toward the bedroom.
It was late autumn and getting cold, so she immediately dove under the covers.
"I'm going to sleep. Can you wait until I'm asleep before you hang up the video call?"
"Are you scared of being alone?"
"I'm not scared. I'm just not used to it all of a sudden. It would be so nice if you were here," Melody Monroe said casually.
"Good girl. Go to sleep," Evan Fairchild coaxed softly.
Melody Monroe yawned, her eyelids heavy. She was truly exhausted today, so it didn't take long for her to drift off.
Evan Fairchild watched her sleep for a moment, then grabbed his phone, stood up, and headed out.
