He had obviously heard Jayden the first time. Asking again was nothing more than a cheap attempt to intimidate him.
"I-I just said we planned to watch the race together with Edward."
Jayden stuttered, but to his credit, he didn't back down.
I couldn't tell whether his nervousness came more from Alfred's status or from the fact that Alfred was stronger than him. Maybe both. Either way, the tension in his body made it obvious that he was struggling to stay composed.
Milleia stood slightly behind him, fingers wrapped around his arm as if she were trying to keep him from saying anything else reckless. Her expression was conflicted, caught between discomfort and the desire to smooth things over before they got worse.
Lyra didn't seem to be around, so the two of them were facing Alfred alone.
