Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Beginning

In a room in the boy's dormitory at the University of Ming Heng,

"You are not young anymore! You should start thinking about settling down."

"Now get Up!"

"Wake Up! ", Are you listening ….

The mom's loud voice pierced the darkness and spread to the eardrums, awakening Yu Zian from his sleepiness.

Slowly opening his eyes, the noon sunlight in early autumn fell on his body through the dark brown window glass, making people reluctant to move because of the warmth.

Just waking up, his consciousness is still a little fuzzy, only the voice of the alarm clock on the study table keeps ringing.

After waking up, Yu Zian realized that he overslept.

.

.

Ming Heng was a university in the city of Lei Guang, a second tier college in the country.

Yu Zian took a look at himself in the mirror as he finished dressing.

His six roommates were out having fun for the weekend, but Yu Zian had to work hard as a tutor to earn his living expenses. He gathered his things and got ready to leave.

As he was about to open the door, a mysterious voice resounded in his mind.

"Listen, mortals! I am God and the master of the Cosmic System. I abhor seeing you feeble humans living a mundane and uneventful life. From now on, you will all be placed within the Cosmic System. Strive, strive with all your might, become stronger, and use your strength to please me. Only by continuously growing stronger will you survive. Otherwise, you will all perish! Now, the countdown begins! 5..."

A peculiar noise erupted within Yu Zian's mind, causing him to feel as though time had come to a standstill. His surroundings seemed to move in slow motion, and his eyes felt as if they were fixed in place. All he could perceive was the sound that filled his mind..

"4…"

"3…"

"2…"

"1... The game has begun. All of you ants, struggle to survive!"

The sound came to an end, and Yu Zian was released from his strange state of mind. He was left in a state of shock, and asked himself,

"What is happening?"

He was filled with amazement, and gazed intently at the long stick that had materialized in his hand out of nowhere. It dawned on him that what he had just experienced was not a figment of his imagination.

["Congratulations, you have received a novice staff as new equipment.

This weapon is suitable for novice level use, with an attack range of 0-6 and a durability of 100/100. It will be a valuable asset in your struggle for survival, so make sure to use it wisely."]

Yu Zian's mind was astonished as unusual information flowed directly into his head. Seeing the stick in his hand, a foreboding feeling welled up in Yu Zian's mind, so he wasted no time and quickly rushed towards the dormitory door to lock it up.

As he was still hesitating about what to do with the iron staff, he heard a scream coming from outside the window. Yu Zian quickly walked towards the window to look outside.

The opposite dorm facing Yu Zian's was the other wing of the boys' dormitory.

At that time, it was early afternoon in the autumn season. Many students were out playing, while some were sleeping in the dormitory, whilst there were very few people that did.

Yu Zian was peering out of the window, trying to locate the source of the sound when he suddenly heard a faint cry for help coming from outside.

"Save me!"

A chilling cry for help echoed through the air, causing Yu Zian to quickly turn his attention towards its source. What he saw was a gruesome sight - a young man in a white shirt was being viciously attacked by a group of seven others, who were biting and tearing at his flesh with ferocity. The man's clothing was now stained with fresh blood, and he was screaming and struggling in vain to escape their clutches.

"What is going on?"

Yu Zian was overcome with a sense of impending doom as he witnessed the horrific scene in the distance.

The boys attacked the boy in the white t-shirt, their eyes devoid of any humanity. They were like frenzied beasts, biting and tearing at his body without pause and swallowing it.

The sight of the gruesome scene was enough to make Yu Zian feel sick and overcome with fear.

He endeavored to remain calm despite the fear he felt inside.

The seven boys continued to bite the white t-shirt boy's battered body, which was covered in flesh wounds and missing chunks of flesh. After they finished, they stopped biting and dispersed, wandering aimlessly. They walked slower than the average person, but moved in groups; if you were surrounded, survival would be nearly impossible.

As Yu Zian observed the bloodthirsty zombies, his mind wandered to the video game "Resident Evil". Their bloodied faces and slow movements were reminiscent of the game's zombies, filling him with terror. It was then that he had a realization.

These boys were behaving just like the zombies in Resident Evil!

Yu Zian's conjecture was quickly confirmed when the disheveled white t-shirt boy, whose vitality had been drained and had suffered unrecognizable bites, struggled to stand up from the ground. With both eyes ghostly white, he stumbled aimlessly through the streets.

"Oh no! It's a zombie apocalypse!"

Yu Zian's heart sank. If his suspicions were true and the entire campus was infested with zombies, it would be hard for him to survive.

Abruptly, a loud knocking noise reverberated from the door.

As the knocking on the door grew more intense and the door began to shake, Yu Zian acted quickly and pushed a nearby wooden computer desk towards the door to barricade it. The desk scraped loudly against the floor as he struggled to move it into place, but he managed to secure the door just as it seemed like it was about to give way.

Breathing heavily, Yu Zian took a step back from the door and looked around the room for any other potential entry points. He knew that if there were indeed zombies outside, they would be relentless in their pursuit to get inside.

As the knocking continued, accompanied by a clicking sound, Yu Zian's heart raced in terror as the thin wooden door suddenly shattered into pieces. Two claw-like appendages pierced through the door and reached into the room, causing Yu Zian to gasp in horror.

"Such power!"

In a panic, Yu Zian backed away from the door.

The doors of Ming Heng University's dormitories were flimsy and wooden, yet for ordinary people, to pierce through the door without the help of any tool was not possible. The zombies' powers were far beyond Yu Zian's imagination.

As the claws continued to shake and the sound of the door being pushed open grew louder, Yu Zian's heart pounded with fear. But he knew he couldn't just stand there and wait for the creature to break through the barricade.

Gritting his teeth and summoning his courage, Yu Zian made his way back to the door. With a firm grip on his Novice Staff, he took a deep breath and swung it with all his might at the two limbs that had pierced through the door.

The staff made contact with the claws, causing a loud clang to reverberate through the hallway. The creature let out a low growl of pain, but its limbs remained intact.

Undeterred, Yu Zian swung the staff again, this time with more force and precision. The claws shook violently as the staff made contact, and with a final, decisive blow, the zombie's limbs finally snapped off.

As soon as the zombie's arms were snapped off, there was a loud bang, and then a head with a large hole and white eyes smashed through the thin wooden door. It was a long-haired zombie that had once been a student, and it was struggling fiercely to get at Yu Zian.

"Huang Yan!"

The zombie in front of Yu Zian was a member of the school soccer team, a classmate named Huang Yan who lived next door. Yu Zian recognized him instantly, as they had been chatting just twenty minutes before the outbreak. It was hard to believe that in such a short time, Huang Yan had turned into a zombie. Yu Zian felt a pang of sadness as he raised his staff to defend himself against his former acquaintance.

Yu Zian hesitated for a moment, looking into the white, lifeless eyes of his former classmate. "I'm sorry, Huang Yan," he whispered, "but I have to survive."

With a heavy heart, he raised his Novice Staff and brought it down with all his might on the zombie's head.

The impact was brutal, and there was a sickening crunch as Huang Yan's head was crushed by the blow. Yu Zian recoiled, horrified by what he had just done, but he knew that he couldn't let his guard down for a moment. The campus was overrun with zombies, and he would have to fight if he wanted to make it out alive.

Just as Huang Yan's head was crushed, a small black book and a black coin emerged from his body and landed on the ground near Yu Zian. As he approached, he noticed a white light that seemed to fly from Huang Yan and into himself.

Reacting quickly, Yu Zian reached down and picked up the book and coin, holding them tightly in his hand. He took a few steps back, feeling a strange energy emanating from the objects. He had no idea what they were, but he sensed that they might be useful in his fight for survival.

When Yu Zian took the little black book, he felt a sudden rush of information flood into his mind.
