Chapter 36 - Farewell

The Archdevil opened the enormous door from where he brought Lucas before and closed it with force from his frustrations. It echoed a startling thundering sound, and the sound waves spread through the hallway.

The walls of the hallway blocked the sound from spreading, and it was why it resulted in a sound that echoed like an explosion.

Meanwhile, the cause, the Archdevil, was indifferent to it, still feeling exasperation from the failure of his other fusion attempt. He didn't know how many times it had failed, but his mind didn't waver from surrender, and just thinking of the Archduchess quickly reinvigorated his energy to try again.

Whenever the Archdevil was dissatisfied with the result, he would recall the chains surrounding Lucas' soul and would always try to attempt breaking it whenever he was reminded of the rewards for doing so.

Although in the span of a year, it only happened two times. After all, he never noticed whenever he failed the attempt at least five times or more, only then he would feel frustrated and come to recall the existence of the chains.

The Archdevil was currently consumed by every negative emotion that existed and unknowingly reached another enormous steel door and kicked right through it. The enormous steel door instantly cave in, and the results racked straight away garnered every living being inside.

They were struck in fear again.

Only that… there was only a single living being left inside a lonely cage.

But there were two more corpses of the devil left. It appeared the Archdevil miscalculated.

The Archdevil surveyed the place with a frowning face, and he couldn't help but grit his teeth and finally surrender to fury.

"Damn it! Is that really difficult for me just to sleep with her just once? Is that why she gave me this mission, knowing there was no chance for success at all? But she clearly stated it wasn't difficult to create a demon, then why the thousands of attempts I made, none of them ended in success?

Is she lying to me? Wait, why did I even trust the words of the devil in the first place?

Damn it!"

The Archdevil stomped his ghoulish feet to the ground, and it quickly produced a web-like structure in the floor, which was created from the visible cracks and the tremors. His simple actions of frustration alone caused a massive earthquake, but the Archdevil was still indifferent to it.

It was then he recalled there was still Lucas, and when he looked back towards the remaining corpse of the devil, he knew the other was reserved for him. His lips curved into a smile and finally received enlightenment. There might be a chance for success if Lucas was the other creature to fuse with the devil's corpse.

When he thought of that, the Archdevil finally concluded to break the chain again, and if it still remained headstrong, then it leaves him no choice but to torment the owner. The chain never tried to harm him anyway despite the thousands of attempts to break it.

Therefore, he was confident the chain would not react when Lucas was in the middle of the process.

But sadly… The Archdevil failed to account that the chain reaction could even affect Lucas's physical body from invading harmful Aether.

The Archdevil returned to the previous direction and was now headed towards the room where Lucas was confined. He passed by the room, which Lucas called the morgue, and continued to pave his path toward his aim.

And finally, he stood before the teleportation magic array room, but before he could grab the doorknob and twist it to open. He frowned when he sensed the teleportation magic array radiated energy of activation.

And it wasn't an activation for Lucas to attempt to teleport somewhere, as the Archdevil was aware he doesn't have the ability to activate the teleportation magic array. And if Lucas ever did, it was still futile since Lucas certainly couldn't teleport to longer places.

Unless Lucas acquired the blood of the Heaven Realm being and could provide an Aether, which also only the Heaven Realm being could, then Lucas was guaranteed to stay in Devil's Realm.

Considering Lucas wasn't a devil, he was obviously not part of the rule of the Devil's Realm, so he could try to get out, except if he ever could.

Therefore the reason the teleportation magic array was activating was that someone was connecting to it from the other side. The Archdevil frowned even more, and his thoughts operated quickly, thinking of the reason.

Did the brat's sender finally try to summon him back? Why now? Of all times?

The Archdevil thought with narrowed eyes, recalling the previous theory he had about the sudden appearance of Lucas.

While he was in the middle of thinking, not even a millisecond passed, but his hand slowly twisted the doorknob, awakening him from his thoughts.

He finally decided to find out the reason with his own eyes rather than falling into deep contemplation that would only result in conjecture.

When he finally completely opened the door, his vision instantly descended towards the stunned Lucas, who moved his eyes and gazed locked towards the Archdevil. Time seemed to stop, but the Archdevil sensed the activation time would end soon, so he stepped in.

He did not focus his eyes on Lucas anymore but instead scrutinized the runes of activation and indeed recognized Lucas was being summoned. He felt conflicted about whether to stop him or not, knowing he was out of resources and Lucas was the only way to achieve his goal.

On the other hand, he simply hesitated for the reason it might offend the misunderstood higher being that sent Lucas to his place. He couldn't gauge the exact power of the higher being, but for him to create and place a shackle to the mortal soul, which even affected him, an Archdevil, a higher existence and in the peak of the Earth Realm, conveyed he couldn't match up against such an enigmatic powerful being.

There was no way he would attempt to offend him. It would be better to stay alive since it doesn't mean he couldn't reach his goal.

While he was consumed by hesitation and his thoughts, Lucas quickly caught on to the distinct expression of the Archdevil, which means he was hesitating despite the fact that he could interrupt the activation process.

To be honest, even before the Archdevil opened the door, the teleportation magic array had finally activated and quickly accepted the call of summoning with a delighted face. But when the Archdevil opened the door, he was taken aback and grew nervous if the Archdevil was about to interrupt it.

But who would expect a visible sign of hesitation to appear on the Archdevil's face? Not only that… he sensed an emotion of fear from him.

It didn't take for Lucas to form ridiculous speculation, and it resulted in a roar of laughter, eventually gaining the Archdevil's attention and awakening him from his daze.

"What are you-."

"HAHAHAHAHA, this is so funny." Lucas guffawed and continued:

"Try and come at me, bastard!"

The sudden shift of his emotions left the Archdevil momentarily stunned. Lucas was guffawing earlier, and now he looked at him with a contorted face of indignant expression.

Before even the Archdevil could compose himself, Lucas suddenly smiled, causing his eyes to squint.

He was then broken with another round of laughter again. He had to hug his stomach, finally the side-effects of too much laughing kicking in. Lucas ignored it and rubbed the tear crawling from his eyelids and then gazed at the stupefied Archdevil.

"I really have to thank you for letting me live for a year or so. Finally… I can finally leave this forsaken place.

How I dreamed of this every night."

Lucas pinched his cheek, finding it hurts, and then broke into laughter again. The Archdevil wanted to question him, but the teleportation magic array's activation finally arrived at the last second.

Lucas was aware of it, so he quickly brought his fist before him upside down, facing it toward the Archdevil, and straightened his middle finger.

Before he completely disappeared, his voice still echoed in the room, entering the ears of the Archdevil.

"FUCK YOU!"

It echoed many times in the Archdevil's mind, and it didn't take long for him to realize he was being cursed and mocked by a lowlife.

He felt an outburst of emotions, causing him to howl loudly, even causing the small room to collapse. The howl echoed entirely to the Devil's Realm, disturbing every living being and even causing the owl to flap their wings and fly from the branch, away from the noise.

The Archdevil continued to howl to let out every frustration and fury built in his heart, and it lasted for decades…

But the words left behind by Lucas remained eternally on his mind.
