Chapter 144 - Vigilantes 17

Once Tiffany was left alone and was able to return to her safe house, she sat down in her puppet body in the middle of her room.

She couldn't help but think about how badly things had gone and how badly things could have gotten if it were not for the sacrifice she had to make. 'Damn... now I have to put in another order.

I really do need something much better that is able to perform a whole lot better. All the more reason for me to keep expanding my influence and to keep working on my studies.'

She had seen the limitations of her current puppets some time ago.

They may have been quite the weapons to be used, and they were durable, but they were lacking when they came up against those with Quirks that were more powerful than the common Quirk.

Sometimes it did not matter if a Quirk was not all that good, as some could be trained to be quite useful if they were used enough and pushed beyond their limits many times.

Those who were not restricted by the laws were able to use them more freely, allowing them to become more powerful in that kind of environment.

There would be others that would have a decent enough Quirk that would have flourished under similar conditions, allowing for even more power to be used.

The laws were there to maintain order and public safety in many ways, but they could end up becoming a major restriction for the potential that many Quirks had within them.

Those without a proper Hero Academy or Hero Agency were unable to grow in the same way that such people were given those kinds of opportunities to learn and temper themselves.

That was usually why many people were drawn more toward crime organisations and places where villains gathered.

Those who felt suppressed and did not fit in with the current society usually found themselves drawn to such places where they would no longer be restricted and could do as they pleased.

In a way, that could be considered as something Tiffany had done to gain her own form of freedom and to adapt to her unique situation so that she could take control over her own life and not be so powerless.

She may have obtained power in various ways, but it was still not enough.

Her puppets were like toys when put against thugs that could be found in a gang territory within the city, so it was not a good sign.

What it showed was how much she was still lacking.

There would be people with greater power who would consider such thugs as nothing but small bugs that could be swatted away in an instant, while she had to run away from them, and one of her puppets had ended up being scrapped. 'It is not a complete loss though...'

Despite suffering a loss, she had come to accept that she still had ways to improve and develop further.

That only gave her more motivation to keep pushing herself up to new heights.

Her puppets still had room for improvement, and so did she in many ways.

What was most important in the current moment was something else entirely.

Enough time had passed since she had gotten away, so she had yet to check in on things.

A connection remained that she had not checked up on since she had been too busy returning the current puppet to the safe house.

Her soul left that puppet and moved far as it sought out the connection.

Her vision remained black, and there was no sound to be heard until she finally started to see and hear.

Everything became a little brighter, and sound started to be picked up a little at a time until everything became clearer.

The place she was in was dark, but light was coming through the windows that were higher up.

She could not look around in her present condition, but even if she could, she would not attempt to do so.

She just remained completely still as if she were an inactive robot that had already lost its spark long ago.

She continued to maintain that act as she assessed what she could pick up on from her surroundings.

It became clearer to her that the body had been moved.

She could see other parts of the puppet's body lying near her, or they were piled on top of her as they had just been dumped there along with the main part of the body.

Everything had been moved to what seemed to be a warehouse of some kind.

The windows were cracked or smashed completely, causing the sun to shine through them, and the wind passed through the openings.

There was not much noise besides the whistling of the wind for some time until there was finally some movement from further away.

Footsteps could be heard as someone was wandering around after taking some steps down to reach the same ground level as the puppet body, once they left a room that was linked to her present location.

Their figure slowly came into her range of vision as she could see them with a mobile phone being held up against the side of their head. "Yeah... we captured that person as instructed. We brought back one of them but you should really get down here to take a look at this first.

The others got away due to that thing blocking us and injuring many of our people in the process. Yeah... you should really hurry. This thing was not human. It is some kind of robot by the looks of it."
